Schrader Defending Crown In Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH

2009 DIRTcar NationalsBarberville,FL — BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jan. 17, 2009 — Tremendously strong fields are a common theme during the season-opening Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park, so it’s no surprise that consistency yields championships. Nobody proved that better than NASCAR star Ken Schrader.

Just last year in the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By University of Northwestern Ohio, Schrader bested the 83 other competitors without claiming an A-Main victory during the eight nights of UMP DIRTcar Modified competition. It was a remarkable accomplishment just to make it through the heats and into the feature each night. To see if Schrader can repeat his feat, hurry to Volusia Speedway Park in 17 days for the 12 consecutive nights of racing, Feb. 3-14.

What makes Schrader’s championship run most impressive is that he actually missed a night due to his NASCAR duties. He finished outside of the top five only once, an 11th-place finish. Schrader trailed hot shoe Jared Landers, of Batesville, Ark., by 39 points entering the final night of UMP DIRTcar Modified competition. With Landers missing the A-Main lineup, Schrader charged to a personal-best second-place finish to edge Landers in the overall Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH UMP DIRTcar Modified championship.

Heading into the 38th Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH, Schrader will once again be the man to beat as he fields his UMP DIRTcar Modified against some of the best at the Volusia Speedway Park oval, only 15 miles inland from Ormond Beach on State Road 40. He won’t have it easy in his quest to repeat as champion with drivers such as NASCAR star and long-time friend Kenny Wallace, Canadian standout Steve Arpin, and 2008 UMP DIRTcar Modified National Champion Jeff Leka seeking their time in the spotlight and a shot at the inaugural UMP DIRTcar Modified-only special “The Gator” Championship.

To see who emerges as a star in the 38th running of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH, make sure to reserve your favorite seats in advance before they’re sold out. With infield trailer heights limited to 9 feet, 6 inches, there are no bad seats in the grandstands at Volusia Speedway Park.

Take advantage of special ‘Super Ticket’ deals that offer seats for all the events contested by each headline division, including six Sprint Car events (All-Star Circuit of Champions on Feb. 3-5, World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Feb. 6-8); eight nights of UMP DIRTcar Modified action (Feb. 3-10); six-nights of Dirt Late Model racing (Feb. 9-14); the and four Advance Auto Parts DIRTcar big-block Modified dates (Feb. 11-14).
