Southern Oregon Speedway Showcases Lon Skinner Memorial Modified Event Labor Day Weekend

Medford,OR — Medford, OR – The top DIRTcar UMP Modified drivers in the nation will converge on Southern Oregon Speedway Sept. 5-6 for the 14th Annual Lon Skinner Memorial, one of modified racing’s richest and most prestigious events.

Southern Oregon’s owner, John Skinner, created the event to honor his father, and it quickly became one of the most popular races in the country. In 2009, an outsider captured the checkered flag as DIRTcar Western AllStar Late Model Series standout Bobby Hogge, of Salinas, Calif., topped a stellar field of competitors including current ARCA star and longtime DIRTcar UMP Modified hotshoe Steve Arpin.

“We want the Lon Skinner Memorial to be one of the largest paying Modified races not only on the West Coast but in the Nation,” track promoter Richard Barney said. “It will be another opportunity for us to bring top notch competitors to our fans in Southern Oregon.”

The two-day event at the high-banked 3/8th mile oval will feature DIRTcar UMP Modified racing on both days. Qualifying races will be staged on Saturday with the main events on Sunday capped by the Lon Skinner Memorial “King of the Dirt” race that pays a whopping $5,000 to the winner.

Tickets for the two-day event are $15 Friday and $20 on Saturday, but Southern Oregon Speedway is also offering a two-day pass for $30.

For more information on the 14th Annual Lon Skinner Memorial call Southern Oregon Speedway at 541-245-2755, or visit the track’s Web site at http://www.sospeedway.com.
