50 Pro Late Models Duel for World Short Track Championship Feature Spots

A stout 50-car field for the Fox Racing Shox Pro Late Models invaded The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday night.

As one of seven classes in the fifth annual Drydene Performance Products World Short Track Championship, the Pro Late Models offered up three flights of qualifying and six heat races on night one; all which helped set the stage for Saturday’s finale at America’s Home for Racing.

Wil Herrington (16.315), Cody Overton (16.144), and John Ruggiero Jr. (16.174) each set the fastest mark in their respective flights of qualifying to get the ball rolling. In the grand scheme of things, it was Cody Overton AKA Lil Sexy – younger brother of Big Sexy Brandon Overton – earning the overall Fast Time Award in his No. 97 entry.

Thugg Nasty Logan Roberson bested Herrington in the opening Drydene heat race to slot his E-Z-GO No. 17 in prime position leading into Saturday’s finale. Killer Kyle Bronson was the only heat race winner to come from outside of the front row, putting on a remarkable drive to win the second heat from fourth.

Overton kept his perfect night rolling with a dominant win in the third heat, while Gray Parton followed him with a W in the fourth heat. Ruggerio continued his hot streak by controlling the fifth heat as Brett Hamm brought the night to a close by taking the sixth and final eight-lap preliminary race.

Due to time constraints, Friday’s All-Star Invitational Feature has been pushed back to the end of Saturday’s program which also includes three Last Chance Showdowns and a main event for the Fox Racing Shox Pro Late Models.

Fans unable to attend the Drydene Performance Products World Short Track Championship can watch all the action from the comfort of home via the DIRTVision Fast Pass.
