Alain Brochu grabs DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series at Autodrome Granby

Local Racer Charges ahead of Veteran Yetman for First Career Series Win

Granby, Quebec – Friday, June 21, 2013 – Martin Bélanger, DIRTcar Correspondent – It was the initial event of the DIRTcar Pro-Stock series at the beautiful Autodrome Granby as one local runner rose to the top of the 31-car field that travelled north to Quebec. Alain Brochu had a perfect night winning his feature and heat race.

DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series contenders Rob Yetman and P. J. Peters were on the first row of the 31-car field for the 50-lap event. Yetman took the early lead as local runners Jocelyn Roy. Francois Adam got together sending Adam in the wall in turn 2 causing the first caution.

On the restart, Yetman led the way with brothers P. J. and Allan Peters behind him. Dan Desnoyers slowed in turn 3 and yellow was out with 4 laps completed. One the green flag, P. J. Peters was able to use the outside lane to his advantage and took the lead for 1 lap as Yetman came on strong and regain the lead the on lap 6.

Stephane Lemire challenged Allen Peters for third, both drivers swapping that position . Michel Desjardins hit the interior wall in turn 1 with 10 laps in the books.

Yetman maintained his lead on the restart with P.J. Peters now second, Lemire third, and George Renaud in the top 5 behind Allen Peters sitting in fourth.

By the halfway point, Yetman had built himself a comfortable lead over the Peters brothers, Lemire and Lebrun. The leaders got into heavy traffic on lap 30 and Lemire took this opportunity to grab third spot over Allan Peters.

Yellow lights came out on lap 31 as Michel Larocque stopped in turn 4. On the following green, Pascal Romaneski stepped out of line and caused a pileup involving a dozen cars, blocking the straightaway and bringing out the red flag. Richard Bertrand and Charles-David Beauchamp got the worst of the accident, needing help to the pit area.

Yetman kept the top spot with P. J. Peters behind him and Lemire third. Meanwhile, one of Granby`s top runner Alain Brochu made a charge to the top as he got Lemire and P. J. Peters on the same lap with only 15 to go. Brochu reeled in on the leader as he was now on his backnbumper on lap 38. Brochu used the inside lane and passed Yetman for the lead. Yellow was back out on the field with 10 laps to be completed.

Brochu quickly got away from the rest of the field as Yetman resisted charges from P. J. Peters and Lemire. Mathieu Voghell brought a caution on lap 43. Yetman had a slow leak starting on his left front tire, Brochu got the lead has Yetman fell behind with a flat.

Brochu, still in front with Lemire now second, found something on the top lane, led the final circuits to win his first career DIRTcar Pro Stock Series feature. Lemire, P. J. Peters, Alan Peters and Stephane Lebrun rounded out the top 5.

The Granby native was ecstatic in the winner`s circle: ”we struggled early on in the season but tonight was a lot of fun!” On his biggest win of his career: ”I saw the #7 using the high lane and I was strong on the bottom and got by him, he is one of the top runners so it is pretty cool to beat him !”

The series remains in ”la Belle Province” for another night as the series will travel to the RPM Speedway in St-Marcel de Richelieu for a first visit at the quarter mile bullring.
