Back-To-Back Pro Stock Series Win For Ladouceur On Cornwall Homefront

Joey Ladouceur

Cornwall, ONTAugust 23, 2009 – By Martin Belanger, Cornwall Motor Speedway PR

Cornwall Motor Speedway was the host of the fourth race of the 2009 Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship Series as the best full-fender drivers were in the pits to compete in the Alexandria Home Hardware 50. The two-man show continued as Joey Ladouceur has now captured the last two features on tour while Pete Stefanski claimed the initial two.

Allen Peters led the way in the 50-lap feature race over Joey Ladouceur and Ghislain Valade as the first five laps went on quickly. Second running Ladouceur slowed down and caution went out on lap seven and it seemed like his chances had gone down just as quickly as his flat tire.

On the restart, Peters had Valade as a dancing partner and Valade was able to grab the lead using the inside lane on lap nine as caution came out just two laps later. Peters had a strong start and regained the lead over Valade as Dave Bissonnette was on the back bumper of Peters in third on the high side when Bob Ray and Steve Johnson got together in turn 2 and the race slowed down again on lap 13.

Peters and Valade were side by side on the restart, as Valade seemed to be strong on the inside and gained back the lead on lap 14. Don Carlson was now in contention for third spot as he was racing with Bissonnette but he was able to resist and Bissonnette was able to pass Peters on lap 19. Carlson did the same thing on the following lap and continued racing again with Bissonnette as the race reached the halfway point.

Valade was still the leader with Bissonnette in second, Carlson in third, Peters in fourth and Corey Wheeler filling out the top-five. Carlson passed Bissonnette for second in lapped traffic on lap 27 and Valade lost his great lead over Carlson when top-five runner Bissonnette stopped in turn two to incur a caution on lap 32.

Valade got a good jump in the lead over Carlson and third-place Wheeler while a hard-charging Ladouceur rallied from the back and was flirting with a front-five spot with 15 laps to go. A four-car battle was going on for fourth and fifth positions with less than 10 laps to go while Valade maintained a five car-length lead over Carlson.

Series points leader Stefanski stopped in the backstretch and another caution flag flew on lap 44. Valade led the way over Carlson as Ladouceur was trying to make a maneuver from the outside. He took third when Chris Tremblay stopped in the frontstretch and yellow was shown to the field with five laps still to go.

On the final restart, Valade was still the leader but Ladouceur seemed to be the fastest car on the track as he passed Carlson then set his sights on Valade and disposed of him on the very same lap to take the lead on lap 47. Ladouceur led the remaining distance to win his second feature in a row after his 50-lap win the previous night at Autodrome Drummond. Valade finished second, Carlson third, Wheeler fourth while late arriving Ricky Thompson completed the top-five.

Ladouceur was a happy camper in the winner circle as he liked the competition in this class. “Its always good to see some locals and some invaders running up front,” he noted as he got a visit from points leader Stefanski outside the winner circle. “(Stefanski) came and showed me his damage on the car and he seemed mad at me, we will explain ourselves in pits,” added Ladouceur, who was accompanied by runner-up Valade and Carlson on the podium. “The top seemed pretty good but it was too late when I saw Ladouceur go past, so I am pretty happy with second,” Valade offered in French.

Ladouceur had the fastest time in the grouped time trials with a single lap best run of 14.946-seconds around the racy quarter-mile oval. The Alexandria, Ontario chauffeur also had the fast time last year, once again being the only driver to crack the 15-second barrier. Valade won the National Parts Peddler Halfway Bonus, as he was the leader at lap 25.

A nice contingent of 27 cars showed in Cornwall. The 2009 Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series gets nearly three weeks off yet remains in Canada as it heads to Autodrome Edelweiss on Friday, September 11 for the only 100-lap feature of the tour, paying a whopping sum of $1,500 to the winner, which will be the second highest purse after Super DIRT Week in Syracuse. A rare trip to the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway follows the next day, Sept. 12.
