DIRTcar NE Pro Stocks & Street Stocks Rise High On UMP Point Charts

Weedsport, NYOctober 27, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

For the second straight season, DIRTcar Racing joined together with its sister sanctioning body United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) to provide a lucrative pool of point fund money — a grand total that is unmatched anywhere in the country today and saved for the national and state leaders in the UMP/DIRTcar Pro Stock and Street Stock divisions.

Not only was success measured on local and regional scales during the 2008 racing season, full-fender teams were also ranked on a national level with additional monetary rewards secured due to DIRTcar’s connection with UMP across the country.

In New York State, Sportsman high point man and overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Champion Pete Stefanski was also among the national leaders with 12 feature wins while Dave Mannise, top area points-getter in the Street Stock ranks, scored 15 wins.

In 2008, a portion of the national DIRTcar point fund was allocated with more than $9,000 reserved for the top-20 UMP/DIRTcar Pro Stock-Sportsman and UMP/DIRTcar Street Stock-Pure Stock runners with each champion collecting a $3,000 top prize. The UMP/DIRTcar New York State point fund boasts $600 to the champion and pays down through the top-10 positions.

The eight DIRTcar NE tracks hosting UMP Pro Stock events in 2008 were Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway, Autodrome Drummond (Que.), Autodrome Edelweiss (Que.), Genesee Speedway (NY), Lebanon Valley Speedway (NY), Mohawk Int’l Raceway (NY), Orange County Fair (NY) and Thunder Alley Speedpark while those seven facilities staging Street Stock point races were Black Rock Speedway (NY), Can-Am Motorsports Park (NY), Canandaigua (NY) Speedway, Cayuga County Fair (NY) Speedway, Fulton (NY) Speedway, Orange County and Thunder Alley.

In each of the two full-fender divisions, points were awarded nationally for the best 25 finishes while the minimal number of placements on the state level was 15 races. Points were awarded towards both national and state UMP/DIRTcar Championships and run from March 30 to September 30. Only drivers holding a valid 2008 DIRTcar license are eligible to collect point fund money.
