DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: August 10

Weedsport, NYAugust 10, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

With DIRTcar Racing Northeast’s major touring series idle this week, all the attention focused on the Regional point battles in three open-wheel divisions as the final full month of racing approaches Labor Day Weekend.

Each scoring feature wins during the weekend, Jimmy Phelps retained his slim lead over Matt Sheppard in the Central Region Big-Block standings, while Canandaigua kingpin Steve Paine continued to close the gap on the two series hotshots. Second-generation stalwart Craig Hanson remains strong in the Eastern Region even with Brett Hearn swapping the runner-up spot with Hanson’s Glen Ridge rival JaMike Sowle. Only 10 points are now the difference out West after Dave Murdick scored his third straight victory Sunday at Tri-City to close in on season-long front-runner Jeremiah Shingledecker.

Just 18 points separate the DIRTcar 358-Modified Northern Region top point-getters with Tim O’Brien, Stephane LaFrance and Carey Terrance each scoring wins last weekend. Pete Bicknell has opened up his biggest advantage of the season out West ahead of Chad Brachmann, with Mat Williamson continuing to hang on to third with four weeks to go.

Hovering just a single win behind the DIRTcar Sportsman all-time record of 24, Chris Raabe has dominated the Northern division for a third straight season with Dylan Evoy his closest pursuer. The Eastern points chart remains up for grabs after Bodie Bellinger regained the lead by a mere four markers over Tony Farone and D.J. Brundige, who are dead-locked in second. Steve Gray has command in the Central points race in front of Jeremy Pitcher while Cody McPherson is making a late-season run on Western Region standouts Ryan Susice and Greg Panunte heading down the stretch.

Sheppard (Big-Block), Danny Johnson (358-Modified), Susice (Sportsman Modified) and Louie Jackson (Pro Stock) remain atop their respective Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship standings with Lebanon Valley Speedway hosting the next Super DIRTcar Series event Aug. 26, following the lone Pro Stock stop during the month at Mohawk Int’l Raceway on Aug. 21.

Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series action resumes September 5 at Cornwall Motor Speedway before Sportsman teams pack their bags for a Niagara Frontier trifecta at Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone speedways Sept. 10-12.
