DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: July 12

Weedsport, NYJuly 14, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

All-Star Weekend at Brewerton Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Central New York features the next Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series events for Big-Block Modified and Sportsman teams, with Pro Stocks resuming action in late August while the 358-Modifieds won’t return to activity until Labor Day.

An 8th consecutive Top-5 tally on tour has opened up Billy Decker’s lead in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Blocks with Danny Johnson retaining a narrow margin in the 358-Modified Series until September rolls around on the race calendar. Ryan Susice heads into All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on July 17 leading the Sportsman Series points race while Pro Stock pace-setter Louie Jackson returns to tour competition on home soil Aug. 21 when Mohawk Int’l Raceway doubles up with a World of Outlaws Late Model Series stop.

DIRTcar Northeast Regional open-wheel point leaders remained intact in every open-wheel division but one, with Brett Hearn in the Big-Block ranks making the only move to the top during the past week. A final reminder that drivers must hold a valid 2010 DIRTcar License, purchased by July 15, or be dropped from all weekly point tabulations.

While Hearn vaulted from 4th to 1st in the Eastern Region point standings, DIRTcar Northeast’s Big-Block feature win leaders and Series standouts Jimmy Phelps and Matt Sheppard continue to lead the way in the Central Region point standings. Jeremiah Shingledecker maintains his stronghold in the West corridor.

Mirroring his position on a weekly basis since the beginning of the season, Tim O’Brien heads the DIRTcar 358-Modified Northern Region point standings with division-high six-time race winner Carey Terrance still the closest on his trail. ‘Mr. Small-Block’ Pete Bicknell is once again showing how the West was won as he continues to out-gain Niagara Frontier foe Chad Brachmann on the Canadian-American front.

A crash, rain and Sunday night off kept overall DIRTcar NE feature winner Chris Raabe out of victory lane, yet the ‘Teenage Tornado’ still leads the Northern division points maxing out at 720 while racking up 17 victories along the way. Hoosier-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar title contenders Steve Gray (Central) and Ryan Susice (Western) lead the way in their weekend title bids, while Tony Farone (Eastern) is in control with eight more weekends of regional point events circled on the agenda.

To follow the status of your favorite DIRTcar driver throughout the season, log into www.dirtcar.com and select ‘Points’ at the top then choose division on the left to view all track, region and series leaders. Complete Championship Series points are also available by clicking ‘Super DIRTcar Series’ on the right, then choosing a specific touring division and opening up using the MS Excel format.
