DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: September 19

Weedsport, NYSeptember 21, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

The final weekend of points racing in September is on the horizon with half the title contenders in action this Saturday night in the ‘World Series Fanfest 125’ at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y.

Both in search of their first-ever overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship in 2010, Tim Sears Jr. (Sportsman) and Louie Jackson (Pro Stock) top the respective standings heading to Rolling Wheels for a pair of 30-lap main events each paying $1,000 to win.

Teenager Sears has been sensational in racking up three victories in the past four Sportsman tour stops to give him a comfortable advantage of 65 points over regular-season leader Ryan Susice. Two-time defending points champion Chris Raabe ranks third ahead of outside threats Steve Gray and Justin Wright.

2004 Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock points king Joey Ladouceur has climbed to within nine markers of Jackson after his second Series win of the season this past Saturday at Mohawk Int’l Raceway. Only 47 points separate the top-six pilots, making the full-fender battle the tightest of all traveling tours.

Matt Sheppard swept both open-wheel Modified main events at Mohawk over the weekend, ballooning his Big-Block lead in the Mr. DIRTcar standings to 113 points ahead of top challenger Jimmy Phelps. Billy Decker rides third on the chart while ’09 Mr. DIRTcar titlist Brett Hearn stands a distant fourth.

Small-Block superstars Danny O’Brien and Pete Bicknell continue to swap the top spot with O’Brien emerging as the newest leader in the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified points parade after MIR. A runner-up on three occasions, O’Brien is in quest of his inaugural overall crown while Bicknell has already collected a trio of Mr. DIRTcar trophies during his Hall of Fame career.

The DIRTcar Racing Northeast Regional point standings were finalized over Labor Day Weekend with Sheppard (Central), Brett Hearn and Bobby Varin (Eastern-tie) and Jeremiah Shingledecker (Western) crowned in the Big-Blocks, Stephane LaFrance and Tim O’Brien (Northern-tie) and Bicknell taking top honors with the 358-Modifieds and Raabe (Northern), Bodie Bellinger (Eastern), Gray (Central) and Greg Panunte (Western) heading each Sportsman Modified points chart.
