Weedsport, NY — September 7, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director
Already brimming with a Super DIRTcar Series showdown for Big-Block Modifieds and Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship events for 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified racers, track and tour officials have added a Pro Stock Series points program at Mohawk Int’l Raceway to solidify its stature as the biggest weekend of short-track action ever staged at the refurbished Akwesasne, N.Y. facility.
“When ‘Legends Weekend’ was dropped at Canandaigua, it provided a great opportunity to bring the Pro Stock tour back to Mohawk,” said MIR Promoter Jeremie Corcoran. “This will give the fans a rare chance to see all the top DIRTcar divisions in the same weekend, something never before done here.”
Opening the MIR season with a 75-lap 358-Modified Series stop scheduled on Fri., Sept. 17 followed by a Big-Block Series 100-lapper on Sat., Sept. 18, rain in June postponed the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series ‘Jreck Subs 50’ until 9/17. Touring teams in competition that Friday will also benefit from the addition of a complete weekly Sportsman program offering a separate purse.
Pro Stocks will now join the 9/18 card with full-fender point chasers looking to qualify for the 30-lap main event that pays $1,000 to win. The Ironman Slick Enduro brings the curtain down on Mohawk’s 2010 race season Sun., Sept. 19
Pro Stock title contenders have two other series events in September, leading off with Lebanon Valley Speedway (9/11) in the middle of the month before concluding with Rolling Wheels Raceway Park (Sept. 25) at the end. Track bonus points are currently being tabulated towards the overall Hoosier-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship heading into West Lebanon.
