Postponed in June due to rain, the Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series ‘Jreck Subs 50’ at Mohawk Int’l Raceway has been rescheduled for Sept. 17, creating one of the biggest weekend shows ever staged at the popular Akwesasne, N.Y. oval.
Prior to late-night showers that soak the spacious 4/10-miler on June 23, two-time defending Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Champion Chris Raabe from Napanee, Ont. set fast time and joined Western New Yorkers Dan Wiesner and Steve Gray with qualifying heat race victories.
However, it will be Canadian pilots Dylan Evoy and Sheldon Hoogwerf sharing the front row when the Series stars return to MIR on Sept. 17 after Raabe grabbed the highest number (12) in the customary pre-race re-draw to determine the feature race line-up. Opening round Black Rock Speedway winner Gray, Mark Chiddy, points leader Ryan Susice, Wiesner and Cornwall Motor Speedway winner Tim Sears Jr. follow next on the international starting grid.
Any driver unable to return in September will be scored in the order qualified on June 23, placed behind those cars that do compete and paid points and money accordingly. There will be no new cars added to the field.
With Mohawk’s 2010 season-finale already featuring a 100-lap Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series event on Sept. 17, touring teams in competition that Friday will also benefit from the addition of a complete weekly Sportsman program offering a separate purse.
The Big-Block Super DIRTcar Series makes its second stop of the season at MIR on Sept. 18 while the Ironman Slick Enduro brings the curtain down on Sept. 19.
