Familiar Voices Echo Sounds Of Super DIRT Week Excitement

2008 Super DIRTweek XXXVIIWeedsport, NYOctober 5, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

Anchored by area veteran Joe Marotta and national tour traveler Shane Andrews, Super DIRT Week XXXVII, October 7-12, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse will once again boast a core group of Public Address Announcers second to none in the motorsports industry today.

Long-time voice of Syracuse and DIRTcar Racing NorthEast, Marotta was recently honored during Northeast Modified Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in May as a co-recipient of the 2008 Leonard J. Sammons Jr. Memorial Award which recognizes outstanding contributions to auto racing. Fondly referred to as the ‘round mound of sound’ on the airwaves, he first joined DIRTcar founder Glenn Donnelly’s announcing team in 1974 and has become a staple ever since.

Andrews has emerged as a nationally recognized SPEED commentator and popular track public address announcer around the Central New York DIRTcar circuit, remaining the official voice of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for a third straight season in 2008. In addition to traveling DIRTcar NorthEast’s premier Big-Block tour and carrying out his accustomed announcing duties, Andrews is also heard regularly on the world wide web as a valuable component of the DIRT Radio Network team.

Joining chief tower announcers Marotta and Andrews during the fall festival of speed will be Brian Mulligan and John Burr, who will be handling the 358-Modified division, with Steve Young and Mulligan covering both the Sportsman Modified and UMP Pro Stock portions. Orange County Fair Speedway PA Announcer Tim Pitts will be orchestrating the trackside interviews and introductions throughout the week and will be accompanied by Young, who remains the man behind the mike at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Announcing duties for the Super DIRT Week satellite events at nearby Cayuga County Fair Speedway inn Weedsport and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge will be shared by DIRTcar NorthEast Public Relations specialist Dan Kapuscinski and familiar voice of the ASCS Patriot sprint cars Rich Vleck.
