N.Y.S.S.C.A. Membership Reaps Rewards At Super DIRT Week XXXVII

2008 Super DIRTweek XXXVIIWeedsport, NYSeptember 16, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

The New York State Stock Car Association continues in it’s second decade of Super DIRT Week support as representatives will climb the stage for special awards presentations at the New York State Fairgrounds in October. The 37th edition of Super DIRT Week in Syracuse runs October 7-12, 2008.

While the “One Away” award was presented to only one driver in the DIRTcar Big-Block Modified division for the first four years of NYSSCA’s Super DIRT Week involvement, four drivers in the open-wheel and full-fender divisions will once again share a unique award that was first introduced during SDW ’02.

The 2008 awards will be presented to the first driver across the line in the Rite Aid 200 Big-Block Modified, ITT Corporation/Goulds Pumps “Salute To The Troops” 150 358-Modified, Town Mechanical Sportsman and Pro Stock championship races that holds a valid NYSSCA membership.

“Victory lane is the best place to be and we’re looking forward to meeting up with our members there,” remarked NYSSCA Vice-President Kelley Keefe, who will be joined this year by NYSSCA Secretary Bonnie Mortensen to make the special awards presentations over the weekend. “All of our members are top-flight drivers wherever they finish in such a big event like this and last year every award winner treated us with a great performance in each division.”

Securing $100.00 cash awards during Super DIRT Week ’07 were 358-Modified race winner Brett Hearn, 4th-place finishers Ronnie Johnson (Big-Block) and Nick Stone (UMP Pro Stock), and Sportsman Modified race rookie Danny Varin (15th).

N.Y.S.S.C.A. is a non-profit organization run by volunteers dedicated to the racing community through education and continued promotion of the sport. The most important function of the group remains the benefit fund; one established to help members who are injured in race-related accidents. Active officials in the New York State Stock Car Association can be contacted by mail at 193 Saratoga Road, Scotia, NY 12302 and e-mail through the www.nyssca.com homepage.
