Weedsport, NY — August 29, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
DIRTcar Racing’s 33rd consecutive year of sanctioning motorsports events in the Northeast is ready to make its stretch run beginning in September with a full slate of high-paying extra-distance Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series races in all classes.
More than 20 point races highlight the biggest month of the season on the DIRTcar NE circuit, including the first 200-lap events as part of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series, plus 358-Modified Series stops in both Canada and the United States. Sportsman and Pro Stockers contend in nearly a dozen prime time events while Canandaigua Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park kick off the five-race trail used to crown the second-ever Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Champion.
Overall 2008 Mr. DIRTcar Champions will be determined by tabulating points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock and Street Stock teams along with bonuses collected in each divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series. This year the track bonus formula is identical for all five touring classes.
Each driver will take the best five (5) finishes from a designated hometrack to collect bonus points which will then be added to actual Series points to determine the ‘08 titlist. Using the standard DIRTcar NE weekly points format, a driver winning five features at a given speedway could carry up to 300 extra points (60 per win) into the Mr. DIRTcar Championship when track points are officially tallied after Labor Day.
Current Championship Series leaders in the respective point chases heading into the extended Labor Day Weekend are Billy Decker (BB Mod), Todd Burley (358-Mod), Dan Wiesner (Spt) and Pete Stefanski (Pro).
To gain access to DIRTcar Racing Series headline stories throughout the 2008 season, log into www.dirtcar.com and select ‘Series’ at the top then choose Mr. DIRTcar Series (#7) and hit ‘GO’ on right (all releases are also posted in the NEWS category). An option for ‘Driver Points’ is listed on the left side of the homepage which includes all five Northeast touring divisions while more specific information about the Advance Series can be found at www.superdirtcarseries.com.
