Weedsport, NY — September 30, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
DIRTcar Racing’s 33rd consecutive year of sanctioning motorsports events in the Northeast is heading down the homestretch as teams strap down for a full slate of high-paying extra-distance Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series races in October.
A dozen race dates highlight the final month of the season on the DIRTcar NE circuit, including nearly 20 marquee events shared between the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified, UMP Pro Stock and UMP Street Stock touring classes. The last two 200-lap ‘Grand Slam’ events showcase the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series as part of Super DIRT Week at the New York State Fairgrounds and Eastern States Weekend at Orange County Fair Speedway.
The last month opens at Fulton Speedway with day one activity during Schnieder Bros. 200 Weekend, October 3-4, spotlighting the DIRTcar Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Street Stocks in their respective 30-lap feature events, each offering valuable points toward the overall Mr. DIRTcar Championships.
Super DIRT Week XXXVII, October 7-12, is a five-star deal for fans and racers alike, with the fall festival of speed offering five straight days of Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series action for all five divisions at five area tracks. Small-Block stars kick off their four-race stint in four successive at Can-Am Motorsports Park on October 8, then venture to Brewerton Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park before closing out Saturday with the big 150-lapper on the Syracuse Mile. Three Sportsman Series events are sprinkled in along the way with the lone Street Stock show staged at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on October 10 while single main events for Big-Block Modifieds and Pro Stocks headline the 37th ‘Super Sunday’ in the Salt City.
With no time to spare, touring teams head downstate to contest for bragging rights in the 47th Annual Eastern States Weekend, October 17-19, at the historic hard clay oval in Middletown, New York. En route to OCFS on Friday, Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman title contenders will be stopping off at night for the first-ever tour event staged at Thunder Mountain Speedway. 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified racers end their season Saturday at Orange County before the Big-Blocks and Pro Stocks bring the curtain down Sunday at the storied 5/8-miler located just an hour from New York City.
Full-fender teams compete in the final points show of the 2008 DIRTcar Racing NorthEast season when Hoosier Racing Tire presents the 4th Annual Street Stock World 100 at Black Rock Speedway on October 25.
Overall 2008 Mr. DIRTcar Champions will be determined by tabulating points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock and Street Stock teams along with bonuses collected in each divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series.
Drivers have already taken the best five (5) finishes from a designated hometrack and collected bonus points which were added to actual Series points after Labor Day to help determine their present ranking. Current Championship Series leaders in the respective point chases heading into October are Billy Decker (BB Mod), Pete Bicknell (358-Mod), Chris Raabe (Spt), Pete Stefanski (Pro) and Ron Hawker (Sts).
