Weedsport, NY — September 8, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
The past weekend began with seven Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series events slated to run over three days in DIRTcar NorthEast’s four major touring divisions.
By the time the final checkered flag flew on Sunday evening, just two extra-distance races made their way into the record book, yet not one program went unaffected by the region-wide rains that have hampered DIRTcar NE’s 33rd successive season of operation.
The only two feature race winners over the weekend were Andy Bachetti in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series Budweiser National 200 presented by Benjamin Moore Paints at Lebanon Valley Speedway on Sunday and Brad Rouse in the 50-lap J&S Heating and Air Conditioning 50’ Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman trail race at Merrittville Speedway on Saturday.
Rain on Saturday at Lebanon Valley even pushed the 40th Kings Weekend activity to the next day while Merrittville lost its entire card on Friday before the second day of the Rose Webber Memorial Weekend on Saturday could finally get underway.
Autodrome Edelweiss Promoter Serge Lagace rescheduled the big $1,500-to-win Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship to Saturday, September 13 beginning at 2 p.m. following Friday’s washout while early evening rain out west at Ransomville Speedway forced track officials to postpone the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman show one week to Friday, Sept. 12.
Set to host a 75-lap Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship race this past Saturday, a persistent mist delayed the season-ending special at Brockville Ontario Speedway to this coming Friday, although the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock event planned that same Saturday evening at Mohawk Int’l Raceway was scrapped altogether.
The sun finally broke through Sunday at Lebanon Valley yet racers heading to Humberstone Speedway yesterday were not as fortunate with the annual Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman trail race that was ultimately cancelled in the wake.
This coming weekend all the action starts Friday with the Advance Series all-stars doing battle with BRP Modified Tour guns in the $6000-to-win North-South 100 portion of Modified Madness at Lernerville Speedway.
Brockville’s make-up show on Friday will feature strictly 358-Modifieds on the card and in addition to the 75-lap Mr. DIRTcar Series event, the final 96 laps of the rain delayed Canadian DIRT Challenge Series will be run for 171 laps of Modified Mania beginning at 7 p.m. Also on tap this Friday at Ransomville will be the 50-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Series event plus the Street Stock points finale featuring twin 15-lap mains along with the Bobcat of Buffalo Firehall Enduro Series, a 4/6 Cylinder Fall Enduro Series, plus the Choice Wireless Corp. 2 BBL Challenge, plus Kids Rides for first 200.
Headlining the Saturday agenda will be the biggest single-day show in Autodrome Drummond history as Small-Block stars on both sides of the border chase a $15,000 top-prize in 150-laps of open-wheel competition during the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series run in Quebec.
Along with the Pro Stock Series special at Edelweiss, Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman campaigners head to Genesee Speedway in Batavia, New York on Saturday as Lauterborn Electric backs the big fall championship card in Western New York.
