All the biggest races are under lights, highlighted by the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 now on Saturday night for the first time

Super DIRT Week will live up to its name of “Racing’s Biggest Party” on and off the track for its 52nd running, Oct. 7-12.

From increased purses for the drivers to increased activities for the fans, this year’s Super DIRT Week will be the biggest yet at Oswego Speedway.

The Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds, DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Pro Stocks will again highlight the racing action, culminating with the prestigious Billy Whittaker Cars 200 under the lights on Saturday for the first time.

WEEK OF RACING
All four of the week’s biggest Features will run on a new night as this year’s schedule was pushed back a day, putting the DIRTcar 358 Modified Salute to the Troops 150 and DIRTcar Pro Stock 50 on Friday night and the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 and DIRTcar Sportsman Chevrolet Performance 75 on Saturday.

More than $30,000 was added to the overall purse for Super DIRT Week 52, making $300,000 available among the four main Features. The Billy Whittaker Cars 200 pays $52,000 to win (continuing to increase by $1,000 every year), the Salute to the Troops 150 pays $20,000 to win, the Chevrolet Performance 75 pays $5,000 to win and the DIRTcar Pro Stock 50 now pays $3,000 to win.

The biggest names in four divisions will duel for those prizes and a chance to have their name in the Northeast’s most prestigious dirt racing history book. Among them include last year’s champions: Mat Williamson (Billy Whittaker Cars 200 & Salute to the Troops 150), Matt Janczuk (Chevrolet Performance 75) and Luke Horning (DIRTcar Pro Stock 50).

Williamson, of St. Catharines, ON, scored his third “200” title last year. A fourth title would tie him with legendary motorsports figure Gary Balough for the third-most all-time. NASCAR Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, will also be on the hunt to make history. If he wins his sixth Billy Whittaker Cars 200 title this year, he’ll tie Hall of Famer Brett Hearn for the most Super DIRT Week Big Block Modified wins.

Several big names will on the hunt for their first Billy Whittaker Cars 200 win this year too. Most notable is Max McLaughlin, who went from racing Big Block Modifieds full-time to joining the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series this year. He finished third in the “200” in 2022 and then second last year. He’ll shot for first this year behind the wheel of the Heinke-Baldwin Racing No. 8H.

Before the four divisions start on Wednesday, two other races will help kick off the week.

The future stars of racing return to Oswego Speedway for the second annual Quarter Midget & Microd Mania on Monday, Oct. 7. More than 80 Quarter Midgets and Microds will fill the infield of Oswego Speedway with racers ages 5 to 16. Heat Races for the divisions will start at 2 p.m. with Features set to begin at 6 p.m. Admission is free for all spectators. And for those who can’t make it, the Features will be live on DIRTVision.

Then, on Tuesday, Oct. 8, DIRTcar 358 Modifieds and DIRTcar Sportsman will compete in the 31st Hurricane Harvey at Brewerton Speedway.

WEEK OF PARTYING
As Dirt Modified Hall of Famer Jimmy Horton said, “it was a big party, and a race broke out.” Super DIRT Week 52 is bringing just as much of the party as it is the racing.

The fun will commence during the Super DIRT Week Kick Off Party at Lighthouse Lanes (in front of the speedway) at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. Drivers and local bowlers will compete in a tournament, while fans enjoy pizza and beer specials.

DIRTcar’s fan entertainment team will be on site all week, playing games with fans and handing out prizes.

There will be music at the Island Stage in the pit area Tuesday through Saturday with Central New York’s DJ Mike performing each night. And in addition to his DJ Party, there will be a live concert Friday night and Saturday night.

Fans will get to line the city streets, waving their flags and holding their cameras while 50 of the cars competing in the event cruise around Oswego’s city streets during the City of Oswego Parade at noon on Wednesday.

Friday will see a cornhole tournament at noon in the front stretch midway. (Follow @SuperDIRTWeek on X to sign up).

Saturday will give fans the chance to meet the Top 30 starters in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 with an autograph session in the front stretch midway at 1 p.m. The night will end in a blaze of glory with a firework show following the final checkered flag.
