Syracuse 200 Highlights 39th Annual Super DIRT Week in October

Syracuse GrandstandsSyracuse, NYAugust 5, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

DIRTcar Racing officials announce the Syracuse 200 will take the green flag at 2 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2010, as the final event of the historic 39th Super DIRT Week at the New York State Fairgrounds.

The premier dirt racing spectacle on 10-10-10 will cap five consecutive days of action on and off the track at the famous Syracuse Mile and speedways throughout Central New York. Many of the same open-wheel stars kick off the weekend on Saturday afternoon, contending in the companion 150-lap title event for 358-Modifieds that also will get under way at 2 p.m.

“Super DIRT Week is the biggest annual dirt racing event in the world, on and off the track,” said DIRTcar Racing Northeast Region General Manager Cory Reed. “Everybody is excited to see the green flag wave at 2 p.m. on 10-10-10 and hear the rumble of 40-plus Big-Block Modifieds race down the frontstretch at the Moody Mile. There’s nothing else like it in sports, you really have to be there.”

This year’s Super DIRT Week opens trackside on Wednesday, Oct. 6, with Modified ‘Happy Hour’ slated to begin at 3 p.m. The traditional ‘Media Day’ at the John Hill Infield Media Center kicks off Thursday’s action, followed by Bilstein Shocks Time Trials for both Big-Blocks and 358-Modifieds plus 358 and Sportsman ‘Futures’ events for rising stars.

The Friday card is headlined by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars ‘King of the Mile’ Dash, along with Big-Block Triple 20 and 358-Modified Twin 20 qualifying races, plus Sportsman Time Trials before first-time Big-Block and Pro Stock pilots contest in their own ‘Futures’ finale.

The weekend is filled with main events for DIRTcar Northeast’s top traveling series — Syracuse 150 358-Modified Championship and Sportsman Championship races on Saturday, with the SDW XXXIX Modified 200 and Pro Stock Championships showcased on Sunday afternoon.

Satellite events continue to make Super DIRT Week a unique racing experience with four area tracks racing under the lights on consecutive nights, including the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars led by 20-time champion Steve Kinser on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Rolling Wheels Raceway in nearby Elbridge.

Overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar title contenders travel north to Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville on Wednesday for a 358-Modified/Sportsman doubleheader while the Small-Blocks go solo Thursday night at Brewerton Speedway. On Friday the ‘360 Sprint Car Challenge’ and ‘Parts Plus Tri-Track Series’ Stock Car finale grab the spotlight at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport while another 358/Sportsman twin-bill headlines the twilight program at Rolling Wheels.
