The countdown is on to Super DIRT Week 53 at Oswego Speedway with only a few months in the way of Racing’s Biggest Party.
A loaded schedule of racing and entertainment will bring the biggest dirt race in the Northeast to life, Monday-Saturday, Oct. 6-11.
The Super DIRTcar Series, DIRTcar 358 Modified Series, DIRTcar Sportsman Series, and DIRTcar Pro Stock Series will again highlight the racing action all week, which culminates with the DIRTcar 358 Modified Salute to the Troops 150 and DIRTcar Pro Stock I Love NY 50 on Friday, and the DIRTcar Sportsman Great Lakes 75 and $53,000-to-win Super DIRTcar Series Billy Whittaker Cars 200 on Saturday.
Last year saw record entry numbers as the biggest names in each division continue to make Oswego Speedway a prime stop every October.
Reigning Billy Whittaker Cars 200 champion Stewart Friesen will headline the top storylines this year as he’ll try to become the winningest Super DIRT Week champion in the Big Block Modified division, breaking his tie of six wins with Brett Hearn.
He’ll again be challenged by the likes of Mat Williamson, Matt Sheppard, and Larry Wight, who will also be on the hunt for another title, along with drivers still looking for their first title like Alex Yankowski, Anthony Perrego, Jimmy Phelps, Mike Mahaney, Peter Britten, Tim Sears Jr. and more.
But before the excitement of the on-track action, Super DIRT Week is planning to bring a party every day of the week in Oswego. And it all starts before the week even officially begins.
Early camper and hauler load-in will, again, take place Sunday (Oct. 5) morning. Then, fans and drivers are invited to Lighthouse Lanes (in front of Oswego Speedway) that night for the annual Kickoff Party to enjoy food, drinks, prizes, and bowling.
The fun continues on Monday with the Super DIRT Week Charity Golf Tournament at the Radisson Golf Course, presented by Weedsport Productions and John and Linda Wight, and the third annual Quarter Midget & Microd Mania in the infield of Oswego Speedway. Watch the future stars of the sport race side-by-side for the biggest win of their young careers.
Racing action returns on Wednesday, but not before the fan-favorite Super DIRT Week City of Oswego Parade. Race cars, pace cars, fire trucks, and more will parade through the city streets at noon to help announce the first day of racing at Oswego Speedway.
Wednesday and Thursday are all about who can guarantee themselves a spot in the weekend’s main events with Time Trials and Qualifying Heats.
There will be a bigger focus on the “Super Six” this year for each division. After all cars have qualified, the top six fastest drivers will be locked into the “Super Six” qualifying session, which secures the top six starting spots in each division’s Feature.
Then, Friday and Saturday are all about the main events.
The grandstands will open at noon on Wednesday and Thursday with on-track action starting at 1 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday and Thursday, while on Friday and Saturday, grandstands will open at 11 a.m. with on-track action starting at 2 p.m.
There will be no shortage of fan activities throughout the week, with live music and a DJ every day – Wednesday through Saturday. The annual cornhole tournament will return, along with various fan activities in the midway.
After the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 on Saturday, fans will also be treated to a fireworks show to celebrate the closing moments of the 53rd running of Racing’s Biggest Party.
