NEWS AND NOTES: I-75 Raceway Event Replaces Grinch 40 at Volunteer

Bailes owns championship lead after two races in quest for Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar crown

The first weekend of Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series racing is in the books, and things are off to an interesting start.

Weekend Recap
Ross Bailes claimed victory in the season opener Saturday evening in the Series debut at Lancaster Motor Speedway, while reigning Xtreme champion Chris Madden garnered a record seven Blue Gray 100 titles with the victory Sunday night at Cherokee Speedway. Bailes dropped back to seventh after starting on the pole, but maintained the points lead by three over Carson Ferguson and Ben Watkins.

Madden, the two-time Series champion, did not participate in the Palmetto State 50 at Lancaster and currently sits 12th in the standings. This opens the door for a new champion’s name on the trophy at season’s end.

Tennessee Weekend Shakeup
The third annual Grinch 40 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN, originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, has been canceled. The Series debut at I-75 Raceway in Niota, TN, will take its place, hosting the Xtreme Series stars for the first time on Dec. 4 instead of its original date of Dec. 5. Sunday will be a rain date if needed.

The action continues in just under two weeks’ time in the Volunteer State – if you can’t be at the track, stream every lap of the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series live on DIRTVision presented by Drydene.

Championship Battle Takes Shape
While Ross Bailes owns the championship lead after the first weekend of action, the top 10 is a who’s who of Southeast Super Late Model talent. Following Bailes, Carson Ferguson and Ben Watkins, Michael Brown is the only other driver with two top-five finishes in the first two events. Click here for the full championship standings.
