The entire DIRTcar NorthEast racing community extends its congratulations to Larry Bishop, who was recently presented with the distinguished Dig Safely New York President’s Award at the organization’s annual business meeting held at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York in April.

The special presentation was made on behalf of Dig Safely New York by Director Steve Wright, specifically recognizing Bishop for his involvement in the leadership of the DIRTcar Racing program. A commemorative plaque offered the words:

“In appreciation and acknowledgement of his dedication to the cause of damage prevention displayed through his coordination of the DIRT Motorsports program and his ongoing dedication and commitment is deeply appreciated by Dig Safely New York.”

Starting as a Field Representative and retiring in April ’06 as the Operations Manager after 10 years of service with Dig Safely New York, Bishop currently serves on a volunteer basis as the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Program Coordinator.

Dig Safely New York http://www.digsafelyny.com has been a loyal and long-time promotional partner with the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast organization, primarily backing the “Dig Safely New York Shootout” Big-Block Modified Non-Qualifiers race during Super DIRT Week. DSNY currently maintains a strong presence in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series, most recently securing naming rights for the Advance Series Big-Block Modified consolation round which is recognized as the ‘Dig Safely New York Last Chance Race’ in 2008.

Established in 1968, Dig Safely New York remains a not-for-profit group whose membership includes volunteers from over 1,300 underground facility owners comprised of utilities, municipalities and private operators. It serves all of New York State with the exception of New York City and Long Island.

In line with Bishop’s recent award presentation, a statement issued by the New York State Public Service Commission announced that Governor David A. Paterson proclaimed April 7 through April 11, 2008 to be “Dig Safely Week” in New York State as a way to remind excavators, contractors and homeowners that state law requires them to call one of the state’s toll-free one-call centers before starting any excavation or digging project.
