Weedsport, NY — September 30, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director
DIRTcar Racing’s 34th consecutive year of sanctioning motorsports events in the Northeast is heading down the homestretch as teams strap down for the final bill of high-paying extra-distance Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series races in October.
Nine race dates highlight the last month of the season on the DIRTcar NE circuit, including more than a dozen marquee events shared between the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock touring classes. The ‘Rite Aid 200 Presented By Ferris & Snapper Mowers during Super DIRT Week XXXVIII at the New York State Fairgrounds is the ’09 Super DIRTcar Series finale, with the winner collecting a $50,000 grand prize in the nation’s premier Big-Block event.
The last month of competition opens at Fulton Speedway with day one activity in the 24th Annual Fulton 200 Weekend, October 2-3, spotlighting the DIRTcar Sportsman title contenders in their 30-lap feature event offering valuable points toward the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship.
The 38th edition of Super DIRT Week, October 7-11, is a four-star deal for fans and racers alike, with the fall festival of speed offering five straight days of Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series action for all four divisions at four area tracks. Small-Block stars kick off their four-race stint in successive days at Can-Am Motorsports Park on October 7, then venture to Brewerton Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park before closing out Saturday with the big ‘Salute To The Troops’ 150-lapper on the Syracuse Mile. Three Sportsman Series events are sprinkled in along the way while single main events for Big-Block Modifieds and Pro Stocks headline ‘Super Sunday’ in the Salt City.
With just enough time to return home and reload, touring teams head north to contest for bragging rights in the first-ever DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, Oct. 17-18, at Brockville Ontario Speedway. 358-Mod and Pro Stock racers end their season Sunday, Oct. 18 while the Sportsman follow up their Saturday night showing at The BOS by bringing down the curtain one week later at Black Rock Speedway on Oct. 24.
Overall 2009 Hoosier Tire-VP Mr. DIRTcar Champions will be determined by tabulating points earned in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Blocks and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock teams, along with bonuses collected in each divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series. The track bonus formula remains nearly identical for all four touring classes, with each afforded the opportunity to carry up to 360 extra points (60 per race) into the Mr. DIRTcar Championship when track points were tallied after Labor Day. In the Sportsman division ONLY due to the large number of events originally scheduled, a driver’s two (2) worst finishes were dropped through September with every event in October counting.
Current Championship Series leaders heading down the stretch are Brett Hearn (BB Mod), Dale Planck (358-Mod), Chris Raabe (Spt) and Joey Ladouceur (Pro). Hearn is in search of an all-time record seventh Mr. DIRTcar crown, Planck his first-ever, Raabe a second consecutive and Ladouceur the second of his full-fender career.
