Jocelyn Roy wins thriller at Autodrome Granby

St-Helene, Quebec’s Pro Stock superstar powers past race leader Stephane Lemire with 4 laps to go

Granby, Quebec – Saturday, June 21, 2014 – Martin Bélanger, DIRTcar Correspondent – After laps of side-by-side racing, Jocelyn Roy powered hard in the final stages of Friday’s DIRTcar Pro Stock Series 50-lap Round 2 to claim victory.

Local runners Alain Brochu and Michel Larocque started on the front row of the SD Performance 50-lap event. Brochu was the early leader as Stephane Lemire quickly made his way to third after starting in the 6th spot. Lemire used the high lane to pass Larocque for second on lap 6 with Roy in hot pursuit, overtaking Laroque for third place in the next lap.

The first caution came on lap 8 for Bruno Cyr as he got a flat tire. On the green, Brochu kept the lead over Lemire witn series opwner winner Dave Bissonnette in fourth. The top lane seemed the way to go as Lemire was able to pass Brochu for the lead on lap 11. Brochu charged back two laps later to retake the top spot.

A great battle raged between both leaders as Roland Hebert hit the wall on the front stretch and the yellow was back with 35 laps to go. On the restart. Brochu still lead as Bissonnette made his way to third. Brochu and Lemire swapped the lead as the feature got to 20 laps completed.

At the halfway point, Brochu had a slight edge on Lemire as Roy was running strong in third followed by Bissonnette and Stephane Lariviere completed the top 5.

Luke Horning slowed in the backstretch on lap 29 and the second caution was out. The battle continued up front as Brochu and Lemire were side-by-side for the lead with 20 laps to go. Gus Hollner lost his hood in front of the grandstand and yellow lights lit with 31 laps in the books.

Another green lap was run when Guy Viens slowed the field down on lap 32. Lemire had good start as Brochu hit the wall real hard in the backstretch and the red flag was out.

When the race resumed, Lemire lead as Stephane Lariviere had a great jump racing in second and challenged the leader. Roy grabbed some bite on the inside and took the lead on lap 38.

In lap 42 Lemire, with Roy at his tail, was able to regain the first place while Lariviere played the spectator in third. Roy didn’t say his last word jumping to the lead with 4 laps to go. Roy was able to resist late-race challenges and won his first DIRTcar Series race in 2014 in front of Lemire and Lariviere as Francois Adam and Bruno Cyr completed the top 5.

Roy was happy and tired in the winner’s circle: ”I worked very hard to win this race, it was not perfect but I was able to find a groove in the middle of the race and I am happy to win in front of my fans!”

The series will take a summer break as the next event is schedule on Saturday, September 6th at Autodrome Granby for their second and final visit of 2014. The final events will be run at RPM Speedway on September 20th as the champion will be crowned in Syracuse during Super DIRT Week.
