Weedsport, NY — August 31, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director
DIRTcar Racing’s 35th consecutive year of sanctioning motorsports events in the Northeast is ready to make its stretch run beginning in September with a full slate of extra-distance Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series races in all classes.
More than a dozen point races highlight the biggest month of the season on the DIRTcar NE circuit, including the Super DIRTcar Series fourth stop of the year at Cayuga County Fair Speedway and a return to Mohawk Int’l Raceway later in the month. The 358-Modified Series stops in both Canada and the United States, with Sportsman and Pro Stockers contending in a pair of make-up events at Mohawk.
Originally scheduled for June 23 with the Big-Block Series at MIR, rain delayed the headline 50-lap Sportsman feature until Sept. 17. Same results two months later, although on this occasion early evening showers at Mohawk on Aug. 21 forced officials to postpone the entire Pro Stock show until Sept. 1 alongside the World of Outlaws Late Model Series special.
With Big-Block Modifieds and Pro Stocks already running back-to-back series shows at autodromes Granby and Drummond this summer, its time for the 358-Modifieds to take center stage in Quebec the second weekend in September. Cornwall kicks off the traditional fall tour for Small-Blocks on Sept. 5.
Sportsman go even further as Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone host the annual tour tripleheader in the Niagara Frontier on Sept. 10-12 before closing out the month at Rolling Wheels Raceway. Pro Stocks accompany Sportsman to the ‘Fast Track’ the final weekend in September after a mid-month romp around Lebanon Valley.
Overall Hoosier-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar champions will be determined in 2010 by tabulating points earned in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock teams, along with bonuses collected at a driver’s respective home track in divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series. Those valuable track bonus points will be issued after Labor Day with each licensed track champion receiving 1,000 points down to the 25th-place driver who earns 900 at his best track during the year.
Current Championship Series leaders in the respective point chases heading into the extended Labor Day Weekend are Matt Sheppard (BB Mod), Danny Johnson (358-Mod), Ryan Susice (Spt) and Louie Jackson (Pro).
