Grayville, IL (October 8th, 2010) Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Michigan secured his third DIRTcar UMP Sunoco American Late Model Series Championship this past weekend at the series’ finale at Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, Illinois. Ruhlman and Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Michigan battled with Jackson, Michigan’s Rusty Schlenk the entire season for the 2010 Championship. Ruhlman would edge out Roberts by just five points for the title as he finished just ahead of Roberts in the series’ final two events on October 1st and 2nd at Kankakee County Speedway. Although both drivers had less than stellar performances at the two final events, Ruhlman used thirteenth and twelfth place finishes to beat out Roberts’ nineteenth and thirteenth places finishes to secure the Championship.
Ruhlman powered his way to three victories in the twenty-two race Sunoco American Late Model Series that visited eleven different tracks in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. Ruhlman picked up wins at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Michigan, Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio and I-96 Speedway in Ionia, Michigan.
Ruhlman will collect $5,000 for winning the Sunoco American Late Model Series Championship in January at the Sunoco American Late Model Series Championship Banquet that will be held at the Eldora Speedway. Roberts will collect $3,000 for finishing in the runner-up position.
