2009 DIRTcar NationalsBARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jan. 9, 2009 — It snowed again in the Midwest today. That inclement weather is heading to the Northeast, where it will no doubt pile on top of the few feet of snow from last month. If only there was an escape, you say.

Ah, but there is an easy answer. During the next 25 days, we’ll present you with the solution to your winter woes — the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park. Before the spring breakers invade Daytona Beach, Fla., the racing community joins together for two weeks of excitement from Feb. 3-14 in sunny, warm Florida — where snow is but a distant memory. The days are filled with action near the beach, the nights come alive a short 15 miles inland at Volusia Speedway Park. It’s where Daytona goes to race at night.

Over the next 25 days, you’ll be presented with memorable moments from the history of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH. Whether it was Steve Kinser’s first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory at the track, Ken Schrader’s UMP DIRTcar Modified title, Billy Pauch’s improbable victory in a Big Block Modified or rising star Josh Richards’ back-to-back opening season wins in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, there is no shortage of action to warm you from the winter doldrums.

Beginning Feb. 3 at the monster high-speed, half-mile oval are six nights of 410 Sprint Car open-wheel racing featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions and the legendary World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series superstars. Racing with them are the always thrilling UMP DIRTcar Racing Modifieds, which will introduce a new event — “The Gator Championship” — this season. The second week of racing sees the full-bodied machines from the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and UMP DIRTcar Racing. Joining them for what will no doubt be side-by-side, edge-of-your-seat excitement will be the fan favorite Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modifieds.
