Grayville, IL — Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich. (Super Late Models) and Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky. (Modifieds) maintained their UMP DIRTcar Racing national points leads heading into the busy Memorial Day Weekend.
Last weekend’s wet weather throughout the Midwest curtailed Schlenk’s racing plans to just one start, but he made the most of it by winning Friday night’s Super Late Model feature at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park. His points lead did shrink slightly from the previous week, however, going from 63 points through May 12 to 54 points through May 20.
Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., now sits second in the Super Late Model national points standings, continuing his steady climb in the rankings over the past month. The driver known as the ‘Highside Hustler’ scored a feature win last Saturday night at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Ind., and finished 11th in Sunday night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway that was co-sanctioned by UMP DIRTcar.
The 44-year-old Sweeney, meanwhile, registered a second-place finish last Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway in his only Modified appearance of the weekend, extending his national points lead slightly to 64 points over Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind.
Robinson was victorious on Saturday night at Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway, but he couldn’t close the gap on Sweeney because he received only a one-point bonus.
Gary Cook Jr. of Deery Creek, Ill., vaulted from sixth to third in the Modified points standings after racing twice over the weekend. He finished fifth on Saturday night at Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway and won Sunday night’s feature at Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill.
In other UMP DIRTcar divisional points races, Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds) and Bill May of Muskegon, Mich. (Factory Stocks) remained at the top of their respective national standings.
New points leaders after last weekend’s action include Troy Clark of North Vernon, Ind. (Sportsman), Chris Fisher of Bluff Point, N.Y. (Stock Cars) and Michael Rittenberry of Clarksville, Tenn. (4-Cylinders).
All drivers are reminded that they must have a valid DIRTcar Racing membership by June 16 to be eligible to earn points for the remainder of the season. Visit www.DIRTcarmembers.com for more information about the benefits of a DIRTcar Racing membership.
