Concord, NC — DIRTcar Racing Western Region Super Late Model stars will have a shot at more cash and national attention this season thanks to a new twist with the UMP DIRTcar Racing points program.
The West Coast’s DIRTcar Super Late Model action will feature Pacific and Southwest regions for the 2009 campaign, giving a greater number of drivers an opportunity to share in the UMP DIRTcar points fund.
“Creating two UMP DIRTcar regions within the DIRTcar Racing Western Region opens more avenues for our Super Late Model racers to earn money and recognition with UMP and DIRTcar,” said DIRTcar Western Region director Chris Morgan. “We’re working hard to bring more attention to Late Model racing on the West Coast and this provides teams an opportunity for a UMP DIRTcar check in addition to their series payouts.”
A total of $6,200 in UMP DIRTcar points-fund cash will be on the line for the top 10 finishers in the Pacific Region. Drivers can earn Pacific Region points by competing on the DIRTcar Western Allstars Late Model Series, the DIRTcar Northwest I-5 Late Model Tour and in other DIRTcar-sanctioned events in California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada.
With DIRTcar’s Western Allstars and Northwest I-5 tours running no conflicting dates this season, the UMP DIRTcar points program raises another incentive to bring the best drivers from both series together in talent-filled shows for the West Coast’s Super Late Model fans.
The Southwest Region, meanwhile, has a posted points fund of $3,100 for the top 10 finishers in the standings. Points can be earned on the DIRTcar-sanctioned Southwestern Dirt Racing Association (SWDRA) Super Late Model tour and in all other DIRTcar-affiliated events in Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas.
DIRTcar Western Region drivers will also earn points toward the UMP DIRTcar national points championship, which is determined using a driver’s best 40 finishes/points nights. Last year’s UMP DIRTcar national points fund paid out $79,875 to the top 100 drivers in the final standings.
In order to be eligible to collect UMP DIRTcar points-fund money, a driver must hold a valid DIRTcar Racing membership.
Both West Coast regions have DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned action coming up over Memorial Day Weekend. The DIRTcar Northwest I-5 Late Model Tour kicks off its 2009 season with events on May 22-23 at Cottage Grove (Ore.) Speedway and May 24 at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., and the SWDRA series continues with a two-day program on May 23-24 at Canyon Raceway in Peoria, Ariz.
