Lake Odessa, Michigan (Friday, March 25th, 2011): The Biggest Single Day Event in the state of Michigan just got even BIGGER at I-96 Speedway! In addition to the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour Race #11 on Sunday, June 26th, the Lake Odessa, Michigan speed plant will also host the newly created DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals for UMP Modifieds on the same day!
The brand new Modified series is running in support of the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour throughout the marathon 25-race schedule which will take the UMP Late Models and now the UMP Modifieds throughout the Midwestern United States through nine different states over a 32-day span. This is the One and Only stop in the state of Michigan for both tours and will be Race #11 of the 25 races for both.
“This event was already huge to start with. Hosting the only Michigan race on the schedule for UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour and now with the addition of the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals, What more could you ask for in a single day of racing?” Asked I-96 Speedway Co-Owner / Promoter, Mike Mouch.
“There’s going to be teams from all over the country here for this race in both the UMP Late Models and UMP Modifieds, plus we’re the only game in town that day.” Mouch continued. “What better way to spend a Sunday during the summer then to come out to the track early in the afternoon, or even the day before, we’ll be here; Do some serious Bench Racing the night before, Tailgate all day and watch some of the best racing you’ll see all year with some of the best drivers in the country!” He added.
During the special Sunday extravaganza, the UMP Late Models and UMP Modifieds will race on the inner 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked dirt oval that is also utilized for the Weekly Divisions throughout the season. Joining the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour and DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals will be one of the tracks weekly regular divisions as the UMP Sport Compacts will also be in attendance in support of the biggest single-day race in the state of Michigan in 2011.
For this event, there will be special times for everything to start and those will be released at a later date. Also it’ll be “Gift of Life” Night at the races in support of Organ Donation and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. More Details coming very soon. Finally, Camping will be allowed on the grounds the day before on Saturday, June 25th for some of the travelers looking to get to Lake Odessa, Michigan early and get settled in for this special event.
In the Hell Tour’s stop at I-96 in 2010, Home State Favorite, Pinconning, Michigan standout, Jeep VanWormer, who earlier that day out-qualified the stellar 45-car field with a lap measured at a 19.462 around the outer ½ mile, took the thrilling win, his second of the 2011 Hell Tour, over a stout field as Britton, Michigan’s Devin Shiels and Clark Lake, Michigan native, Brian Ruhlman made it a clean sweep of the Podium Positions for the state of Michigan by finishing second and third!
El Paso, Illinois driver, Ryan Unzicker finished fourth ahead of I-96 regular, Zack Olger, from near-by St. Johns, Michigan, completed the Top Five and giving Michigan four of the Top Five finishers. Dirt Late Models standout, Moweaqua, Illinois ace, Shannon Babb finished sixth while another I-96 regular, Spring Lake, Michigan Veteran Bill Bray was seventh over Houghton Lake, Michigan’s Dona Marcoullier as a pair of Illinois representatives, Dennis Erb Jr., and Brandon Sheppard finished off the Top 10.
Bloomington, Illinois driver, Jason Feger was crowned the 2010 UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour Series Champion over Erb Jr., while Babb, VanWormer, and Unzicker completed the Top Five. VanWormer was the highest finishing Michigan based driver in the Series.
The DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals for UMP Modifieds is a brand new series that will run in support of the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour for UMP Late Models. As Title Sponsor of the series, Summit Racing Equipment will post a $10,000 cash point fund. Over $5,000 in Summit Racing gift certificates will be posted as contingency awards at every event.
The Championship standings will reflect a driver’s seven best finishes, opening the competition up to a significant number of drivers. Summit Racing Equipment and DIRTcar officials will soon announce a significant contingency and product award program that will further reward UMP Modified teams competing in the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals.
Both Series’ will travel throughout the Midwest starting in and into the heart of DIRTcar Racing’s UMP region before concluding in mid-July. Like their counterparts of the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour, the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals tour will kick off on Wednesday, June 15th at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana.
