Weedsport, NY — August 19, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director
The schedule of qualifying races leading up to the lucrative Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship on Oct. 10 of Super DIRT Week XXXVIII in Syracuse, New York continues this weekend with Cayuga County Fair Speedway staging a special Big-Block/Small-Block Shootout.
Modifieds will be out in full force at the hub of DIRTcar Northeast on Sunday, August 23 with the highest finishing small-block driver earning a guaranteed starting position in the Super DIRT Week 358-Modified Championship on the Syracuse Mile. The first DIRTcar-legal small-block at Cayuga County will also land an automatic starting berth in the World Series Weekend 358-Modified Championship at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Sept. 25.
The 35-lap Modified main at Cayuga County will also award bonuses of $250, with the first three DIRTcar-legal small-blocks across the line pocketing additional rewards of $125, $75 and $50. No track handicap format will be in place on Sunday as a draw will be used to determine the qualifying heat race line ups, with a redraw for number of heat finishers to establish the feature starting order.
Qualifying procedures for the 30th Annual Syracuse 358-Modified Championship include time trials for all drivers including those already holding guaranteed starter status through the summer qualifying races plus the DIRTcar 358-Modified Regional Championships. Preliminary clockings on Thursday, October 8 lock in the front three rows with the top-8 non-guaranteed drivers making Friday’s Twin 20s starting grids.
The summer-long qualifying trail culminates with the 150-lap 358-Modified Championship held during the 38th edition of Super DIRT Week, October 7-11. Guaranteed starters will be added from Super DIRT Week qualifiers at Can-Am Motorsports Park (Oct. 7), Brewerton Speedway (Oct. 8) and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park (Oct. 9), with the current top-12 in overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified point standings and provisionals filling out the field. The Brewerton qualifier will be added to the Twin 20s line-up while Rolling Wheels qualifiers will be placed at the back of Saturday’s starting grid at Syracuse.
