WHAT TO WATCH FOR: DIRTcar 358 Modifieds Thunder Into Fouth of July Weekend With Stops at Can-Am, Weedsport

Lance Willix and Tim Fuller

The DIRTcar 358 Modified Series has a busy Fourth of July weekend ahead, with two events in five days.

First, the Series visits Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY, on Wednesday, July 3, for the Pabst Shootout. Drivers will battle in a 50-lap Feature paying $5,000-to-win.

Then, it returns to action at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, June 7, for the Speedweek Finale. A $5,000 prize is on the line again in another 50-lap Feature.

Here’s a look at what to watch for at Can-Am and Weedsport:

Lance is Home: After winning the opening race of the 2024 DIRTcar 358 Modified season. Lance Willix has the chance to defend home turf Wednesday night.

The Theresa, NY driver has made Can-Am his home for many years and is off to a fast start at the “Nasty Track of the North.” He’s currently second in points at the track and has two wins, four top fives, and seven top 10s in eight starts.

Willix is aiming for his third DIRTcar 358 Modified Series win.

North Country Stars: To earn either $5,000 prize this weekend, Willix will have to contend with a stout regional field from northern New York.

Tim Fuller, who Willix is chasing in points at Can-Am, has four wins at the track in 2024 and six overall 358 Modified wins this season. The Edwards, NY driver has eight DIRTcar 358 Modified Series wins at Can-Am, including the last two events.

He’s also knocked on the door of a Series win at Weedsport, finishing third in last year’s Cavalcade Weekend event run in October.

If Fuller scores a win this week, it’ll be his 23rd career Series victory.

Two other North Country drivers to watch are Jordan McCreadie and Billy Dunn.

McCreadie earned a third-place finish in the Series opener at Glen Ridge but is searching for his first win of the season. In 14 total 358 Modified starts, he has seven top fives and 10 top 10s between Can-Am, Glen Ridge, and Mohawk International Raceway.

He finished 12th at Can-Am and fifth at Weedsport in 2023.

Dunn, meanwhile, has found Victory Lane in 2024 at Can-Am and has four top fives and six top 10s in eight starts there this season. The 12-time DIRTcar 358 Modified Series winner aims for his first Series win since Glen Ridge in 2023.

Summer at the Port: After the Pabst Shootout on Wednesday, the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series heads to Weedsport on Sunday, July 7. It’s the first time the Series will race in the summer at the 3/8-mile track since August 1998.

Erick Rudolph has won three of the last six Series Features at Weedsport, including last October. The Ransomville, NY driver has 19 career Series wins entering this weekend.

A Chance to Shine: Can-Am and Weedsport allow drivers the opportunity to leap toward the 2024 championship.

Reigning Super DIRTcar Series Rookie of the Year, Felix Roy earned a fifth in the Series opener at Glen Ridge and has been successful in a 358 Modified so far in 2024, scoring two victories.

Roy finished third at Can-Am last season and 11th at Weedsport. He’s searching for his first DIRTcar 358 Modified Series victory.

Ryan Bartlett is another driver with a chance to take a step forward at his home track on Wednesday after earning a top 10 at Glen Ridge. Bartlett finished eighth in last year’s event at Can-Am.
