After winning the DIRTcar Sportsman Series West Region championship, Cody McPherson is focused on two more prizes this fall.

The first is a third DIRTcar Sportsman Series title; the other is a second Chevrolet Performance 75 win at Super DIRT Week 52.

McPherson kicked off the road to the 2024 championship by sweeping the West Region with wins at Ransomville Speedway, Merrittville Speedway, and Humberstone Speedway. That put him in a position to start the championship season on a strong note when it begins on Sunday, Aug. 11, at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

“Every race was pretty tough,” McPherson said. “But we pulled it off. It just means maxing out the bonus points. You have to take advantage of the points system and maximize on everything and luckily, we were able to maximize our region.”

While his West Region sweep put him on a path toward another championship, a Central Region victory in June gave him the confidence he needed for the championship season and Super DIRT Week.

“When we left Weedsport that night, I said to my crew guy there may have only been 27 cars, but it was the best of the best,” McPherson said. “It’s the guys you’re going to run on the tour with, so to get that win it was really good. It was a good momentum builder.”

With his four wins this season, McPherson passed Brad Rouse for the most DIRTcar Sportsman in Series history. But even with those victories, he knows the difficulty of the road ahead.

“It’s so tough,” McPherson said. “A lot of the tracks I’ve only been to once or twice. Some of them I haven’t been to at all. We’re kind of going in blind, but I think we’ll be alright.”

However, he won’t be going in blind when he gets to Super DIRT Week 52. Like his road to a third title, he already knows what it takes to win at Oswego Speedway.

“We’ll be alright, we’ll be prepared,” McPherson said. “Hopefully, we’ll get a few things going our way and be in contention.”

The road to the DIRTcar Sportsman Series championship stops at Oswego Speedway during Super DIRT Week 52, with the Chevrolet Performance 75 on Saturday, Oct. 12. For tickets, CLICK HERE.
