DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: May 3

Weedsport, NYMay 4, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Northeast PR Director

With Northeast tour action resuming at the end of the month, Big-Block stalwart Billy Decker from Unadilla, N.Y. and Sportsman standout Steve Gray from Middlesex, N.Y. remain atop the point charts in their bid for the respective overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship.

Decker holds a slim one-point advantage ahead of Florida DIRTcar Nationals Champion Matt Sheppard with round three scheduled at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on May 30. Gray captured the lone champ trail show in April ahead of defending Mr. DIRTcar titlist Chris Raabe, with Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway hosting the second extra-distance race on June 13.

The Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series gets underway at Cornwall on May 23, followed the next evening by opening-round action in the 358-Modified points chase at Merrittville (Ont.) Speedway.

In DIRTcar Northeast Regional competition, Central New York star Sheppard holds a comfortable lead over Can-Am Motorsports Park winner Steve Paine, opening day Lebanon Valley Speedway victor Kenny Tremont tops the Eastern standings while Keystone State chauffeur Kevin Bolland triumphed in April at Lernerville (Pa.) Speedway to stay in front out west.

Consistency has vaulted Chad Brachmann over two-time winner Pete Bicknell in the Western New York 358-Modified Regional points battle, with youngest sibling Tim O’Brien leading all Small-Block contenders early on in the Northern standings. Gray (Central) and Raabe (Northern) continue to pace their area Sportsman fields, while recent winners Ryan Susice (Humberstone/Western) and Brian Pessolano (Glen Ridge/Eastern) are the newest regional frontrunners after the first weekend of racing in May.
