Concord, NC — Fans Can Vote For Their Favorite Modified Driver Until March 16 At AlltellAllStar.com
Receiving a $12,000 check is a big deal for any short-track racer.
But for a driver who toils in the UMP DIRTcar Modified division, it’s a really big deal.
Just ask any of the six drivers who won a UMP DIRTcar Modified feature during the recent Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., a group that includes Jared Landers of Batesville, Ark. (the meet’s only two-time winner), Scott Drake of Webb City, Mo., Dave Groves of Morgantown, W.Va., Tim Hancock of Mt. Olive, Ill., Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., and Jesse Stovall of Branson, Mo.
Each driver is dreaming of becoming the first-ever Alltel DIRTcar All-Star – an honor worth a cool 12-grand for their bank account.
But the UMP DIRTcar Modified victors can’t lay claim to that cash without a little help from their friends and fans.
The Alltel DIRTcar All-Star prize will go to the driver who receives the most votes in an on-line poll that runs through 11:59 p.m. on March 16. Supporters of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners can vote for their favorite driver once a day by visiting www.AlltelAllStar.com.
All 18 drivers who won features during the Feb. 5-16 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals are eligible for the Alltel DIRTcar All-Star voting – and every one of them could certainly put the $12,000 to good use. But as the half-dozen UMP DIRTcar Modified winners will surely tell you, they’ll stretch that money further than anyone else.
UMP DIRTcar Modified drivers, after all, are typically Weekend Warriors who don’t enjoy many opportunities to race for five-figure first-place payouts like their brethren in the 410 Sprint Car, Super Late Model and big-block Modified divisions – the other three higher-profile classes that were part of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.
Actually, each of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners is eyeing one of the biggest, if not the biggest, payoffs of their racing career.
If that’s not reason enough for a short-track fan to vote for one of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners, then how about this:
* Hancock, who races in the heart of UMP DIRTcar country, could use the Alltel cash to help him improve on a 63rd-place finish in the 2007 UMP DIRTcar Modified national points standings.
* Landers, an up-and-coming young driver, and his wife are expecting their first child in the near future.
* Stovall would love to take some financial pressure off the two sponsors who foot the bill for his racing effort.
* Groves would reap a huge monetary reward for his more than 25 years involved with racing as a driver, chassis builder and mechanic.
* Drake and Hess crave more backing for their ambitious schedules of dirt Late Model and Modified racing.
Voting daily at www.AlltelAllStar.com for one of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners also enters fans in a contest to win a $500 gift card from Alltel Wireless.
The 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals concluded on Feb. 16. The two-week event featured the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series, UMP DIRTcar Racing Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds and the All Star Circuit of Champions. Each race night included two feature events that made a driver eligible to be an Alltel All-Star.
The winner of the $12,000 Alltel DIRTcar All-Star prize will be announced at the completion of voting on March 16 and honored with a special ceremony at a date to be determined.
