ONE START, ONE WIN: Hopkins Wins in Street Stock League Debut at Eldora

Surviving one of the most intense, lap-after-lap battles in DIRTcar eSports history, Drew Hopkins bagged his first career Street Stock League victory Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway. The former World of Outlaws championship series racer from Kentucky out-paced a relentless Kyle Jared and Johnny Ratley over 30 laps to claim victory in his first career start with the League.

Though he led 19 laps after starting on the pole, Hopkins did not have an easy path into the Final Round. He placed 11th in his Preliminary Round Feature after starting P5, narrowly making the cut into the main event with the penultimate transfer position. But, he turned it on in Final Round Qualifying, laying down the fastest lap overall at 19.520, giving him the pole position on the starting grid.

Hopkins encountered heavy competition early on from Preliminary Round Feature #2 winner Kyle Jared, swapping the lead back-and-forth several times over the course of the race. But Hopkins came out on top in the end, staying strong on the final restart in the closing laps to keep Jared at bay and seal the $100 victory.

“I’ve just got to thank Kyle for racing me clean there,” Hopkins said in the DIRTcar eSports Twitch post-race interview. “I knew early we had a little bit of contact, but that was fun. I knew that one restart with about six or seven-to-go there, he could’ve had me, and I told him when the yellow came out that I got lucky.

“I’ve just got to thank him for a clean race. All-in-all, I had to work for that one, but it was fun.”

Jared crossed the stripe in second with Ratley right behind in third, while Billy Northcutt scored his best League finish in fourth and Shawn Hayes rounding out the top-five.

LONG TIME COMING: Rumsey Scores First Tour Victory at Eldora

Over 15 career starts for Logan Rumsey on the DIRTcar eSports Tour, but never once a trip to Victory Lane. That was, until Wednesday night, when the NOS Energy Drink Midgets came to Eldora Speedway.

Rumsey, of Manchester, PA, was like clockwork all event long, setting fast time in Qualifying, winning his Heat Race and leading all 20 laps of the Feature en route to a $250 check and his first-ever DIRTcar eSports Tour victory.

Evan Seay, of Chesnee, SC, came into the event with a slim points lead over Alex Bergeron and CFM eSports teammate Blake Matjoulis, but was involved in an early race incident, setting him several laps back on the field with a 23rd-place finish. Matjoulis finished on the podium, while Bergeron placed eighth, making for a near three-way tie for the points lead heading into the final showdown next Wednesday night, when the Bicknell Racing Products Big Block Modifieds take on The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

HEADS UP MOVE: Gage Wins After Leaders Tangle at Eldora

Jordan Gage cashed-in for his second career Chevy Performance Street Stock League victory Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway after points leader Tyler Jackson got caught on the receiving end of an incident just before halfway. Second-place Kyle Jared made contact with race leader Jackson’s rear bumper coming out of Turn 2, sending Jackson into the wall and Jared to the rear of the field for the contact.

Gage capitalized on the two drivers’ misfortune after inheriting the lead and played perfect defense to runner-up Andrew Clark and third-place Dylan Petty to bag the $100 check.

CLAP BACK: Kilgore Breaks Jackson’s Street Stock Hot Streak with Win at Eldora

Another chapter in the growing book of Carl Kilgore vs. Tyler Jackson has just been scribed.

After a sour finish last Wednesday night at Limaland, Kilgore, of Greenville, MS, stepped back up to the plate at Eldora Speedway and made sure he wouldn’t be denied two weeks in-a-row, leading all 20 laps en route to his third Chevy Performance Street Stock victory of the season over Keith Hackney and Tyler Jackson.

A track reset before the warmup session had several drivers rethinking their strategy, but overall made for a great race in the end and allowed drivers multiple grooves to race.

“That was a hell of a race,” Kilgore said. “I was skeptical about the reset, but it turned out well. It really worked into a great racetrack.”

While Kilgore led the entire distance, he did encounter several slide job attempts for the top spot, but denied them quickly.

“We were trying to keep our nose clean for the first half, then when we had that caution at Lap 15, it was go-time,” Kilgore said.

A late caution flag restacked the field and put a hard-charging points leader in Tyler Jackson, of Rockford, IL, right on Kilgore’s rear bumper for the restart. Both got a great launch, but Kilgore maintained the spot out front as fellow Team No Love member Hackney made the move under Jackson for second as they scrambled into Turns 1-2.

While Jackson was able to take the spot back on the high side by the time they crossed under the white flag, his successful slide job in Turns 1-2 was countered by Kilgore down low as he retook the lead.

Hackney, of Calhoun, GA, threw a slide job of his own from third on Jackson in Turn 3 and was able to cut Jackson off as they reached Turn 4, swiping the runner-up spot away at the line as teammate Kilgore drove away with the $100 Feature win.

The win is one of importance for Kilgore, having come into the race 58 points back of Jackson in the championship standings. The win will cut into Jackson’s lead by 10 points as the season begins the final stretch next week.

KILLED IT, AGAIN: Kilgore Dominates Street Stock League at Eldora for Second Career Win

The Extreme Savage Racing pilot has done it again.

Carl Kilgore took hold of the Chevy Performance Street Stock League field Wednesday night and flat-out dominated it, winning his Heat Race and leading all 20 laps of the Feature to score his second career DIRTcar eSports victory and first of the season.

“It’s a blast around this joint because I love bangin’ the boards,” Kilgore said.

And “bang the boards” he did, as Kilgore, of Greenville, MS, stuck to the high line throughout the Feature and held off some very tough customers behind him in last week’s winner (and teammate) Keith Hackney and Jesse Wall.

The high pressure from the competition behind him reached a fever pitch in the home stretch, as two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish were presented to the field. Wall and Hackney gave it all they had, but in the end, Kilgore prevailed.

“We made a mistake on that first one, but luckily we had a caution and was able to re-rack ‘em,” Kilgore said. “We hit our marks for the last two laps and that was all she wrote.”
