DIGITAL DOMINATION: Seay Dominates Charlotte for $1,000 Win in Inaugural Digital Dash

One-hundred thirty nine other drivers signed-up for a chance to take down the best Dirt Oval racers in the biggest Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified event in iRacing history. In the end, all fell to their knees and bowed at the feet of CFM eSports ringer Evan Seay, who led all 50 laps of the inaugural DIRTcar Digital Dash to collect the biggest cash prize in DIRTcar eSports history.

“We’ve won here with DIRTcar eSports before in the Big Blocks, but that wasn’t with the competition we have here tonight,” Seay said. “It’s not easy, and it definitely feels great to come out here and win again, not just for $250 but for $1,000 is awesome.”

Seay is now $1,000 richer after dominating the second day of the two-day event, first winning Magnum Race Design Preliminary Round Feature #1 before setting quick time in Final Round Qualifying and winning the big show from the pole. The Matjoulis-Seay SpeedShop #33 fended off pressure from runner-up Dylan Houser all race long, mastering restarts to keep Houser’s #2 at bay behind him.

“I know Dylan is always going to be there on those restarts – he’ll trying anything he can to get you off your game,” Seay said. “It was hard to figure out which line to choose going into [Turn] 1. I didn’t know which line I’d go if I had him cleared to the top, or if I didn’t have him cleared what line I could go.”

Houser nearly had Seay cleared for the lead on one of the late-race restarts, but the yellow was quickly thrown right after and forced him back to second. Try as he may, Houser was unable to take advantage on the restarts and get by for the lead.

“It was very tough, especially with these cars how the wig-out so bad before you take the green or even just pacing,” Houser said. “[Seay] makes one little move and you don’t know if he went or if he didn’t. So, you’ve got a 50/50 shot at timing it right.”

Third-place Dylan Wilson earned Hard Charger honors after a shy Qualifying effort of 23rd placed him nearly dead-last on the starting grid. In the end, he avoided the accidents and made every lap count on his way to the front, collecting $500 for his efforts.

BIG BLOCKS, BIGGER TROPHY: Matjoulis Wins Title in Shootout at Charlotte

After winning the World of Outlaws Late Model iRacing World Championship in 2019, CFM eSports driver Blake Matjoulis set out on the championship trail of the DIRTcar eSports Tour in Season 4 and instantly knew he’d be in contention to win his first title. Ten races later, and the fixed-series championship gold is now his.

Coming into the final race, Matjoulis was tied with World Championship rival Alex Bergeron and one point ahead of CFM teammate Ean Seay, making the most intense battles for the championship in Tour history. Matjoulis put himself ahead early, qualifying second-fastest of 42 cars and winning his Heat Race to set him on the front row of the Feature.

Polesitter Hayden Cardwell led until exactly the halfway point, but a costly mistake getting into Turn 1 slammed him into the outside wall, coughing up the lead to Matjoulis. Cardwell then wrecked in Turns 3-4, bringing out the yellow and sending him to the tail.

Matjoulis fended off pressure from Seay from there on out, and sealed the deal in the final laps when Cardwell nearly completed an amazing comeback from the tail of the field by beating him, and Seay, to the stripe in a race off Turn 4 to clinch his first Tour championship.

CFM eSports Feature (50 laps) 1. 127-Blake Matjoulis [2]; 2. 33-Evan Seay [5]; 3. 07-Hayden Cardwell [1]; 4. 41-Logan Rumsey [4]; 5. 12-Alex A Bergeron [6]; 6. 00-Kendal Tucker [12]; 7. 69-Brent D Carter [18]; 8. 23-Ethan C Toedter [13]; 9. 000-Peter Neuder [19]; 10. 96-Gunnar G Swanchara [7]; 11. 013-Aiden Bierlein [16]; 12. 15-Justin Sick [21]; 13. 045-Kyle Jared [22]; 14. 30-Stevin Goldner [20]; 15. 13-Lane Smith2 [8]; 16. 88-Tyler Mayo [10]; 17. 28-Dalton DeWert [15]; 18. 51-Ryan A Miller [14]; 19. 22-Levi Stagman [24]; 20. 9-Carl Kilgore [23]; 21. 48-Dylan Yeager [9]; 22. 74-Loic Bernier [3]; 23. 09-Tanner Tomasi [11]; 24. 85-Tyler Schell [17]

1-2 PUNCH: Seay Beats CFM Teammate, Takes Tour Points Lead at Limaland

After fending off the relentless pressure for the lead behind him the entire race, Evan Seay held off CFM eSports teammate Blake Matjoulis in the final laps to win his eighth career DIRTcar eSports Tour Feature. Former iRacing Late Model World Champion Hayden Cardwell charged from 11th to third, and nearly passed both drivers in the dash for the finish line on the final lap.

With his second victory of Season 4, Seay has now taken the points lead from Alex Bergeron, who has led since the start. Only two races remain on the schedule to settle the battle for a brand-new champion.

HEATED WORDS, COOLER TROPHIES: Tucker Wins Second Straight Tour Championship from Pits After Bergeron, Matjoulis Collision

Evan Seay leads all but two laps en route to third Feature win, Bergeron runner-up in points

After going eight consecutive weeks of notching nothing but wins and runner-up finishes on the DIRTcar eSports Tour, Kendal Tucker is now a two-time DIRTcar eSports Tour champion.

An incredible season for the driver from Mt. Airy, NC – notching three wins, eight top-fives, eight top-tens and all but the first event started.

“It feels good to go back-to-back in this deal,” Tucker said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever done that in a series on iRacing.”

But his podium streak was abruptly ended when some contact from an incident involving Alex Bergeron and Blake Matjoulis on Lap 5 spilled over into his path. Matjoulis and Bergeron came together at the exit of Turn 4, nearly sending Bergeron completely around in front of the field.

His spinning momentum caught the nose of Richard Murtaugh Jr. and then sent him through the Turn 1 grass, back up onto the track and right into the side of Tucker, who collected several other innocent bystanders in a wild flipping sequence in Turns 1-2. Tucker nursed his heavily damaged racecar back to the pits under the yellow but was met with terminal damage upon arrival at his pit stall, forcefully ending his night.

However, coming into the event a secure 75 points ahead of Bergeron in the Tour standings, the championship gold was not lost. Neither was the love between the drivers in the DIRTVision post-race interviews regarding the incident.

“Not much of a surprise coming from the 12 car,” Tucker said. “He has no regard for people around him on the track, it seems like. Goes into the infield when he had some bad luck and comes up in front of everybody else trying to compete for position on the track.”

Bergeron repaired his car, restarted from the rear of the field and went on an incredible passing spree over the next 45 circuits, crossing the stripe third by the drop of the checkered.

“We were definitely the fastest driver out here tonight,” Bergeron said. “It’s just sad that we get wrecked intentionally every week… We did everything we could and went from nearly dead last to up to the front.”

In the end, two spots ahead of Bergeron was the one true dominant force of the race – Evan Seay. The Chesnee, SC-driver led almost all 50 laps of the Bicknell Racing Products Big Block Modified Feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte and scored his third $250 check of Season 3.

“It’s difficult to win these races with them being fixed [setup],” Seay said. “You’ve gotta figure out what line to run and be better at that line than everybody else.”

While Tucker held the virtual championship trophy high in Victory Lane at the end of the night, he was only credited with a 23rd-place finish, much to his disappointment.

“I definitely thought we could have competed for another win,” Tucker said. “It’s probably one of my favorite tracks on here, so for the night to end pretty early, it definitely stings a little bit.”

BERGERON’S BACK: Pro Series Sprint Car Champ Gets 358 Modified Victory at USA Int’l

Points difference now at 75, Tucker will clinch championship next week at Charlotte

He’s a multi-time World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Series Sprint Car iRacing World champion, and now the winner of the first-ever DIRTcar 358 Modified race contested on the DIRTcar eSports Tour.

Alex Bergeron showed an impressive display of resiliency Wednesday night at USA International Speedway, holding off defending Tour champion Kendal Tucker for over half the race to pick up his first Tour victory of the season with the VP Racing Fuels 358 Modifieds.

“We did what we had to do – protect the line there in [Turns] 3-4 and got the win. Pretty happy about this,” Bergeron said.

This win comes as a bit of redemption for the Team ABR leader after a costly penalty nixed his win in the 360 Sprint Car race last week, handing the victory over to Tucker. But this week was a different story – both drivers battled hard, but clean, and put on a show for the DIRTVision presented by Drydene audience.

While Richard Murtaugh Jr. led the field around the big 3/4-mile for the first 18 circuits, Bergeron was forced to wrestle the lead away from him in a big slide job-fest that lasted several laps and involved most of the top-five.

Once Bergeron grabbed the lead, his competition was in trouble. Tucker was his biggest thorn-in-the-side through the rest of the race, clinging right to his rear bumper, just waiting for a mistake to be made by the leader.

But a mistake never showed from the ABR #12. Bergeron led the final 22 laps to pick up his first $250 check of the season and first since January 6 of Season 2.

“I always had great restarts, and made the most out of it,” Bergeron said. “We just had to stay really patient and try not to make any mistakes out front – it’s always easy to make mistakes when you’re leading.”

Tucker crossed the stripe in second, extending his streak of top-two finishes to a whopping eight in his eight starts this season. Now sitting an even 75 points ahead of Bergeron in the standings, Tucker will hoist his second consecutive DIRTcar eSports Tour trophy next week after the Big Block Modifieds wrap up the season in the 10th and final race of Season 3 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

BIG BLOCK KING: Seay Nets Fifth Career Tour Victory, Second with Big Blocks in Marathon at Williams Grove

With his fifth career Feature victory Wednesday night, Evan Seay is now the all-time winningest driver in DIRTcar eSports Tour history.

Seay, of Chesnee, SC, took the lead on Lap 1 of the Feature and never looked back, leading all 50 laps en route to his second Tour win in-a-row – this time, with the VP Racing Fuels Big Block Modifieds.

“Coming out on top will definitely help us gain back some of those points we lost with that okay finish at Weedsport,” Seay said. “Hopefully, we can make all the races and get this points title.”

Indeed, Seay had an “okay” 8th-place finish in the season opener with the Big Blocks at Weedsport Speedway on March 24 after an early-race incident knocked him to the back of the field. But he completed the charge back to the top-10 and salvaged the evening before losing too many points in the standings.

The next week, he put it all together and won from the second row in the Summit Racing Equipment UMP Modified Feature at Bristol Motor Speedway. This week, in a similar fashion, Seay held off all chargers from behind to win yet another $250 top prize.

Several caution flags turned the race into quite the marathon event, running just a few minutes shy of the time limit by checkered fall. This forced Seay to be on top of his restart game.

DIRTcar eSports Tour Season 2 champion Kendal Tucker, of Mt. Airy, NC, ran up front throughout the race and was able to slip underneath Dylan Houser, of Ocala, FL, on the final restart in the closing laps to claim another runner-up finish. While they aren’t chasing points titles in Season 3, both drivers looked hungrier than ever for good points finishes with their relentless chase of each other in the back half of the race.

The DIRTcar eSports Tour resumes racing next Wednesday night, April 14, with a stop at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, racing the Drydene Pro Late Models – catch all the action live on DIRTVision.
