TRIP OF A LIFETIME: Dylan Yeager Scores Trip To 50th Super DIRT Week After 50-for-50 eSports Classic Victory

NAPA Super DIRT Week will make history in less than two weeks with its 50th Running at Oswego Speedway. However, one historic moment was already made for the event Tuesday night by a young iRacing driver.

iRacing pro driver Dylan Yeager, of Hamilton Township, NJ, captured his first career DIRTcar eSports victory in the inaugural Super DIRT Week 50-for-50 eSports Classic, winning a trip to be honored at the 50th Running of NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week, Oct. 3-9.

Yeager was awarded the grand prize package – an authentic Super DIRT Week experience that includes two weeklong passes to the event, a hotel room reservation, travel reimbursement, and a 1-of-1 custom winner’s trophy that will be presented on stage during the Friday Night Lights portion of Super DIRT Week on Friday, Oct. 7.

“It’s gonna be so awesome, I can’t believe it,” Yeager said. “This is so cool, it’s gonna be such a cool event.”

Yeager crossed the stripe almost 1.5 seconds ahead of the field in a dominating victory.

His path to Victory Hill at the virtual Weedsport Speedway almost ended early, however, as Yeager nearly reached iRacing’s incident point limit of 12x in Preliminary Round Feature #1 – which, if reached, would have disqualified him from competition. But he held it together in the closing circuits of the 30-lap event and drove his #48 Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified the remaining distance without incident to finish P5 and qualify for the Final Round.

From there, Yeager dominated. He turned the fastest lap in Final Round Qualifying to claim the pole for the 50-lap Feature and proceeded to put on a clinic, leading all 50 laps to score the win and the richest prize in DIRTcar eSports history.

“It’s awesome,” Yeager said. “It took so long to win a DIRTcar-sanctioned race for me, and it feels great. To do it in these cars… I love racing these things.”

Yeager will be attending Super DIRT Week with his father, and was emphatic about what he’s looking forward to the most.

“Just going there, meeting new people and checking out the racing,” Yeager said. “The track is awesome, I’ve seen videos from there, and I’m hoping this will be a cool event to go to. I’m excited.”

Fellow iRacing Pro license driver Tyler Ducharme, of Bomoseen, VT, climbed from seventh on the starting grid to finish second – his best career DIRTcar eSports finish – and collected a $200 prize. Preliminary Round Feature #1 winner Robby Swan, of Oswego, NY, rounded out the podium and collected a $100 check for his efforts.

Each of the top-10 finishers received a complimentary pass to watch the 50th Super DIRT Week on DIRTVision in addition to their cash prizes.

Race fans can watch the 50th Super DIRT Week on DIRTVision as well, starting with a day of practice for all divisions on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 1:45pm ET.

ABOUT NAPA SUPER DIRT WEEK
Super DIRT Week started in 1972 at the “Moody Mile” in the New York State Fairgrounds, bringing the best Big Block Modified drivers in the world together for the biggest race in the Northeast. Winning the event not only solidified a driver’s royalty in dirt Modified racing, but in motorsports history.

That’s why the likes of NASCAR legend Bobby Allison and three-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion Sammy Swindell attempted to win the event, and keeps legends like Brett Hearn, Kenny Brightbill, Jimmy Horton, Matt Sheppard and more coming back year after year.

The event ran at the “Moody Mile” from 1972 to 2015 and then moved to Oswego Speedway in 2016 – where it has been hosted ever since. Along with the track change, the event continues to grow throughout its years, adding the DIRTcar 358 Modified, DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Pro Stock classes, adding more money to the overall purse and adding more activities for fans throughout the week.

DIGITAL DOMINATION: Seay Dominates Charlotte for $1,000 Win in Inaugural Digital Dash

One-hundred thirty nine other drivers signed-up for a chance to take down the best Dirt Oval racers in the biggest Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified event in iRacing history. In the end, all fell to their knees and bowed at the feet of CFM eSports ringer Evan Seay, who led all 50 laps of the inaugural DIRTcar Digital Dash to collect the biggest cash prize in DIRTcar eSports history.

“We’ve won here with DIRTcar eSports before in the Big Blocks, but that wasn’t with the competition we have here tonight,” Seay said. “It’s not easy, and it definitely feels great to come out here and win again, not just for $250 but for $1,000 is awesome.”

Seay is now $1,000 richer after dominating the second day of the two-day event, first winning Magnum Race Design Preliminary Round Feature #1 before setting quick time in Final Round Qualifying and winning the big show from the pole. The Matjoulis-Seay SpeedShop #33 fended off pressure from runner-up Dylan Houser all race long, mastering restarts to keep Houser’s #2 at bay behind him.

“I know Dylan is always going to be there on those restarts – he’ll trying anything he can to get you off your game,” Seay said. “It was hard to figure out which line to choose going into [Turn] 1. I didn’t know which line I’d go if I had him cleared to the top, or if I didn’t have him cleared what line I could go.”

Houser nearly had Seay cleared for the lead on one of the late-race restarts, but the yellow was quickly thrown right after and forced him back to second. Try as he may, Houser was unable to take advantage on the restarts and get by for the lead.

“It was very tough, especially with these cars how the wig-out so bad before you take the green or even just pacing,” Houser said. “[Seay] makes one little move and you don’t know if he went or if he didn’t. So, you’ve got a 50/50 shot at timing it right.”

Third-place Dylan Wilson earned Hard Charger honors after a shy Qualifying effort of 23rd placed him nearly dead-last on the starting grid. In the end, he avoided the accidents and made every lap count on his way to the front, collecting $500 for his efforts.

DIGITAL DASH: DIRTcar eSports First-Ever Special Event Features Big Blocks at Charlotte

Registration now open for $1,000-to-win iRacing spectacular May 4 & 11

From the fastest-growing Dirt Oval league on iRacing comes a new challenge for the ultimate Big Block Modified racers and money chasers – the DIRTcar Digital Dash.

DIRTcar eSports’ inaugural special event on Wednesday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 11, puts up a $3,600+ purse – with a $1,000 winner’s share – in a 50-lap, fixed setup, Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified showdown on the virtual Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

FORMAT
The DIRTcar Digital Dash will spread over two days, one week apart, and follow the traditional DIRTcar eSports format, which consists of three separate rounds of racing – the Qualifying Round, the Preliminary Round, and the Final Round. All races will be contested using iRacing’s default fixed setup for Big Block Modifieds at Charlotte.

Racing begins with the Qualifying Round on May 4, where entrants will be divided up at random into individual sessions of 24 (maximum) and contest a 2-lap time-trial session to set the starting grid for a 30-lap Feature. The top-12 finishers from each Feature will transfer to the Preliminary Round on the following Wednesday, May 11.

Preliminary Round contestants will then be divided up into two separate sessions, both running one complete racing program including Hot Laps, Qualifying, Heats, Last Chance races and a Feature. The top-12 finishers from each Feature will then transfer into the Final Round.

The Final Round takes to the track that same night with a time-trial session for all 24 finalists to set the starting grid for the 50-lap finale.

BIG BLOCKS, BIGGER TROPHY: Matjoulis Wins Title in Shootout at Charlotte

After winning the World of Outlaws Late Model iRacing World Championship in 2019, CFM eSports driver Blake Matjoulis set out on the championship trail of the DIRTcar eSports Tour in Season 4 and instantly knew he’d be in contention to win his first title. Ten races later, and the fixed-series championship gold is now his.

Coming into the final race, Matjoulis was tied with World Championship rival Alex Bergeron and one point ahead of CFM teammate Ean Seay, making the most intense battles for the championship in Tour history. Matjoulis put himself ahead early, qualifying second-fastest of 42 cars and winning his Heat Race to set him on the front row of the Feature.

Polesitter Hayden Cardwell led until exactly the halfway point, but a costly mistake getting into Turn 1 slammed him into the outside wall, coughing up the lead to Matjoulis. Cardwell then wrecked in Turns 3-4, bringing out the yellow and sending him to the tail.

Matjoulis fended off pressure from Seay from there on out, and sealed the deal in the final laps when Cardwell nearly completed an amazing comeback from the tail of the field by beating him, and Seay, to the stripe in a race off Turn 4 to clinch his first Tour championship.

TOP GUNS: Bergeron and Jackson win DIRTcar eSports season openers

Alex Bergeron and Tyler Jackson are not unaccustomed to parking their digital dirt cars in virtual Victory Lanes across the iRacing simulator-verse. Bergeron won the 50-lap Bicknell Racing Products Big Block Modified Feature at Weedsport Speedway while the defending DIRTcar eSports Chevrolet Performance Street Stock champion Tyler Jackson picked up where he left off last season by winning at Volusia Speedway Park.

Alex Bergeron’s name is synonymous with success in iRacing. He’s won everything including the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car iRacing Series and even dabbles in other disciplines like Rallycross on iRacing as well. Despite all of that versatility and success, Bergeron has yet to put it all together and win a DIRTcar eSports championship.

His quest for a first Tour title started off strong Wednesday night, when Bergeron found the fast way around Weedsport Speedway in a Bicknell Racing Products Big Block Modified, leading flag-to-flag to pick up the win.

Bergeron led the entire race but not without real-life drivers Nick Cooper and Bryce Bailey shadowing his every move. Cooper was ready for any slight mistake or bobble by Bergeron.

Over the course of the 50-lap Feature, the surface of Weedsport Speedway changed and so did the racing line. Cooper made up ground running the bottom in Turns 1 and 2 but lost ground in Turns 3-4 as Bergeron was able to keep a lot of speed and momentum around the top. Bergeron rode that wave all the way across the finish line.

Bergeron crossed the line first with Nick Cooper and Bryce Bailey filling out the podium.

“I am kind of mad at myself,” DIRTcar Sportsman Modified driver Nick Cooper said. “I hit the wall pretty hard halfway through that. I broke the suspension a little bit nevertheless I finished second to Bergeron and I’ll take it.”

If not for one mistake, it could have been another story for Cooper and Bergeron.

DIRTcar eSports Chevrolet Performance Street Stocks

Six Heat Races of Chevrolet Performance Street Stocks assembled at the virtual Volusia Speedway Park in an effort to make the first DIRTcar eSports Street Stock race of season four.

Qualifying is always important with the talent at the front of DIRTcar eSports events. Feature winner Tyler Jackson had to be at the top of his game all night.

“That was an interesting night,” Jackson said. “I qualified third, which is great because I didn’t think I’d qualify that well. In the Heat I was just missing something. Sage was catching me and he threw a slider. He didn’t quite clear me but luckily he missed me off enough that I was able to keep the hammer down on the bottom. We were able to find a new lane that no one else had.”

In the Feature, star iRacers Zane Yost and Carl Kilgore battled for the lead early but with 20 laps to go Kilgore was sent spinning into the infield off of Turn 4 resulting in a massive pile up.

“In the Feature there, Carl got sideways and by the time I realized and checked up I think four or five guys got me,” Tyler Jackson said of the melee. “My right front was so bent in it handled so bad I think it made it good.

Yost brought the field back to green with Tyler Jackson close behind looking to strike on the bottom. Jackson dove under Yost with 15 laps remaining, sliding under him only to give the position back on the over-under.

Jackson continued working on Yost and finally completed the pass only to be turned completely sideways down the backstretch. Jackson somehow hung on for the lead.

The defending eSports champ survived one final restart to hang on for the Feature win.
